Tea Facts

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. And today? Today is a gift. That’s why we call it the present. ~ B. OlatunjiAll our life passes in this way: we seek rest by struggling against certain obstacles, and once they are overcome, rest proves intolerable because of the boredom it produces. ~ Blaise Pascal, PenseesDon’t aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally. ~ David FrostLife is what you celebrate. All of it. Even its end. ~ Joanne Harris, ChocolatImagination is more important than knowledge. ~ Albert Einstein A promise is a cloud; fulfillment is rain. ~ Arabian Proverb

Did you hear about the cowboy who got himself a dachshund? Everyone kept telling him to get a long, little doggie.

Overall, one-quarter of Canadians reported they had eaten something from a fast-food outlet in the last 24 hours. Among teenagers 14 to 18, the propor-tion was one-third. Men ages 19 to 30 were the most likely to get food on the go; 39 per cent of them had done so on the day they were interviewed.

1. Tea comes from the leaves of a tree called Camellia sinensis. The three main types of tea are Black, Oolong and Green. Herbal tea does not come from the leaves of a tea plant, therefore, is not considered to be real tea.

2. Black & Green teas contains catechins, a type of antioxidant, which has been found to reduce people's risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

3. Tea can reduce puffy eyes. Lie on your back and place a moist, cool teabag over each eye, and leave on for around 20 minutes. Your eyes will feel fresher, brighter, look revitalised.

The Measure Of LifeThere was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to

judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away. The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall.

When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to de-scribe what they had seen. The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted. The second son said no—it was covered with green buds and full of promise. The third son disagreed, he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen. The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but ONLY one season in the tree's life. He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are—and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life—can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.

MORAL: If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall. Don't let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest. Don't judge life by one dif-ficult season. Persevere through the difficult patches and better times are sure to come some time or later.

What is harder to catch the faster you run? Your breath!

In 2007, Seattle man Jason Michael Burrows changed his name to include a character from the famous cartoon-turned-movie, Transformers as well. Mr. Burrows is now known as “Jason Mega-tron Burrows,” named after the popular machine hero that’s “more than meets the eye.”

Global Convenience

Good Advice

Tough Boss

Time Waits For No OneTo realize the value of one year: . . . Ask a student who has failed a final exam.

When an employee asked his boss for a day off of work, his boss looked him squarely in the eyes and said “I’d love to give you the day off but, if I let you have the day off, I’ll have to give a day off to every employee whose wife has just given birth to triplets!”

7-11 was the first outlet of their kind to operate around the clock, sell fresh coffee in disposable cups, provide self-serve soda bars, offer all major brands of soft drinks, and serve extra large drinks. To promote all this, they also became the first convenience store to advertise, producing an ad for television in 1949 that featured an animated rooster and crow, symbolic of when they were open.

Their 5800 stores in the U.S. and Canada, and a total of 25,000 world-wide, make them the largest retail convenience stores in the world.

Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly and pray continu-ally. Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass...

It’s about learning to dance in the rain.

A Fresh Perspective "THE TEACHER"

There is a story many years ago of an elementary teacher. Her name was Mrs. Thompson. And as she stood in front of her 5th grade class on the very first day of school, she told the children a lie. Like most teachers, she looked at her students and said that she loved them all the same. But that was im-possible, because there in the front row, slumped in his seat, was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard.

Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed that he didn't play well with the other children, that his clothes were messy and that he constantly needed a bath. And Teddy could be unpleasant. It got to the point where Mrs. Thompson actually began to take delight in marking his papers with a broad red pen, making bold X's and then putting a big "F" at the top of his papers. At the school where Mrs. Thompson taught, she was required to review each child's past records and she put Teddy's off until last.

However, when she reviewed his file, she was in for a surprise. Teddy's first grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is a bright child with a ready laugh. He does his work neatly and has good manners... he is a joy to be around." His second grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is an excellent student, well liked by his class-mates, but he is troubled because his mother has a terminal illness and life at home must be a struggle." His third grade teacher wrote, "Teddy's mother's death has been hard on him. He tries to do his best but his father doesn't show much interest and his home life will soon affect him if some steps aren't taken." Teddy's fourth grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is withdrawn and doesn't show much interest in school. He doesn't have many friends and sometimes sleeps in class."

By now, Mrs. Thompson realized the problem and she was ashamed of herself. She felt even worse when her students brought her Christmas pres-ents wrapped in beautiful ribbons and bright paper, except for Teddy's. His present which was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown paper he got from a grocery bag. Mrs. Thompson took pains to open it in the middle of the other presents. Some of the children started to laugh when she found a rhinestone bracelet with some of the stones missing, and a bottle that was one quarter full of perfume. But she stifled the children's laughter when she exclaimed how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing some of the perfume on her wrist. Teddy Stoddard stayed after school that day just long enough to

say, "Mrs. Thompson, today you smelled just like my Mom used to." After the children left she cried for at least an hour.

On that very day, she quit teaching reading, and writing, and arithmetic. Instead, she began to teach children. Mrs. Thompson paid particular atten-tion to Teddy. As she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive. The more she encouraged him, the faster he responded. By the end of the year, Teddy had become one of the smartest children in the class and, despite her lie that she would love all the children the same, Teddy became one of her "teacher's pets."

A year later, she found a note under her door, from Teddy, telling her that she was still the best teacher he ever had in his whole life. Six years went by before she got another note from Teddy. He then wrote that he had finished high school, third in his class, and she was still the best teacher he ever had in his whole life. Four years after that, she got another letter, saying that while things had been tough at times, he'd stayed in school, had stuck with it, and would soon graduate from college with the highest of honors. He assured Mrs. Thompson that she was still the best- the favorite teacher he had in his whole life. Another four more years passed and yet another letter came. This time he explained that after he got his bachelor's degree, he decided to go a little further. The letter explained that she was still the best and favor-ite teacher he ever had. But now his name was a little longer- the letter was signed, Theodore F. Stoddard, M.D.

The story doesn't end there. You see, there was yet another letter that spring. Teddy said he'd met this girl and was going to be married. He ex-plained that his father had died a couple of years ago and he was wondering if Mrs. Thompson might agree to sit in the place at the wedding that was usually reserved for the mother of the groom. Of course, Mrs. Thompson did. And guess what? She wore that bracelet, the one with several rhine-stones missing. And she made sure she was wearing the perfume that Teddy remembered his mother wearing on their last Christmas together. They hugged each other, and Dr. Stoddard whispered in Mrs. Thompson's ear, "Thank you Mrs. Thompson for believing in me. Thank you so much for making me feel important and showing me that I could make a difference."

"Teddy, you have it all wrong. You were the one who taught me that I could make a difference. I didn't know how to teach until I met you."

Good Advice

Late For WorkTom had this problem of getting up late in the morning and was always

late for work. His boss was mad at him and threatened to fire him if he didn’t do something about it. So Tom went to his doctor who gave him a pill and told him to take it before he went to bed. Tom slept well, and in fact, beat the alarm in the morning. He had a leisurely breakfast and drove cheerfully to work.

“Boss”, he said, “The pill actually worked!”“That’s all fine,” said the boss, “But where were you yesterday?”

Scared DriverA passenger in a taxi tapped the driver on the shoulder to ask him some-

thing. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the curb and stopped just inches from a large plate glass window.

For a few moments everything was silent in the cab, then the driver said, “Please, don’t ever do that again. You scared the daylights out of me.”

The passenger, who was also frightened, apologized and said he didn’t real-ize that a tap on the shoulder could frighten him so much, to which the driver replied, “I’m sorry, it’s really not your fault at all. Today is my first day driving a cab, I have been driving dead bodies to mortuary for the last 25 years.”
