Good lures for largemouths are rubber worms, spinner-baits, and topwater lures.
If you’re trying to get your kids to catch bass, try using minnows hooked through the lips, fished about 3 feet below a bobber.
For Crappie, minnows are probably the best bait. Try a minnow on a bare hook below a bobber, or with a small crappie jig.

Previous Stocking Mckay Lake is not currently
stocked. Natural reproduc-tion for Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, and Crappie is suf-ficient to support their pop-ulations.
The figure to the left shows the per-cent relative abundance of the most abundant species in the 2019 col-lections at Westminster City Park Pond. Surveys here included the use of boat electrofishing and trap-netting. The 2019 results show that Largemouth Bass comprised the largest percentage (31%) followed by Black Crappie (26%) and Bluegill (25%). Common Carp also com-prised a significant portion of the sample.

The figure below shows the length frequencies of Largemouth Bass and Bluegill collected in 2019 at McKay Lake. The vertical bars represent the number of fish at a particular length. Largemouth Bass covered a wide range of sizes, indicating a balanced population. The biggest bass collected measured 22” in length and weighed 3.5 pounds. The Bluegill population showed good numbers of fish in the 5-7” size range, providing a great opportunity for kids to learn to catch fish.
