President’s Report February 2014

Dear Members, Current Membership = 168

Welcome to our first newsletter for 2014. Hi all, I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Xmas and New Year and I hope to share with you another action packed year with the MCMA. The committee members look forward to the few weeks break over the Xmas period but it is now time for us to roll up our sleeves and get back into the swing of steering the MCMA ship through another journey on the motor enthusiast ocean. Hopefully the waters will be mostly calm! Constitution Review As per recommendations from a Committee meeting in November and subsequent December General Meeting, the nominated sub-committee members will be meeting regularly to review and amend our current Constitution so it reflects our current activities and future expectations. I look forward to working with the group which is a good representation of our membership and I’m sure they will add great value to the process. Thanks goes to Brett Cutler, Norm Bruhn and Bruce Wilson for nominating themselves as member representatives. Progress on the Constitution review will be presented at each General Meeting for discussion. Morpeth Motorama As discussed at our December meeting, this inaugural event will be held on the 2

nd of March on the grounds of

Closebourne House, corner of tank Street and Morpeth Road. The event will be financed and co-ordinated by Lead Lease Primelife and the Morpeth Business Association with a little assistance from me and Mick Saide from Shannons Insurance. This event could be the making of a major annual event with proposals of a food van, coffee van, live music, stalls, trophies and of course the Morpeth shopping village. This event will be advertised extensively via the media and Shannons. I’m certain this event will be supported by many MCMA members by bringing their pride and joys out for a run to Morpeth, cars, bikes and trucks. Xmas Party 2013 For my usual selection of photos for the report I’ve attached some images from our Xmas Party arrival for your enjoyment. (look for them throughout the newsletter) Please note: If you have a Historic Registered vehicle and are not a FINANCIAL member of a RMS accredited club, you are not legally registered or third party insured. Member’s vehicles shall not be inspected by Registrars unless they show their current proof of payment. February meeting: 7.30pm 03/02/2014 at Lorn Park Bowlo.

Safe Motoring, Alex Clements

HISTORIC REGISTRATION: Driving Your Classic

Members are reminded that other than official runs, vehicles on historical registration may be: 1. driven on official club runs (see calendar above and SMS messages); 2. driven on Wednesday and Sunday mornings, on a tune-up run that leaves the Bakers Cottage at 9:00 am

(10:00 am in May, June, July, August & September); 3. driven within a 20km radius of where it is usually garaged for the purposes of battery charging, tune up

and other general maintenance purposes; 4. driven to locations beyond 20 kms for the purposes of having repairs undertaken, or for securing quotes

for repairs, after notifying the club registrars; Ian Scott (49319046), Rob Hopper (49341712), Murray Poole (49557575) or Mick O’Hara (49381880).

5. driven on other occasions after seeking the authorisation of a club registrar.

WEDNESDAY AND SUNDAY TUNE UP RUNS

These runs are under-rated in our club. They are a privilege of membership, and provide enormous flexibility for members. I urge you to turn up at Baker’s Cottage at the allocated time of 9:00 am (10:00 am in the winter months of May, June July and August), and drive your classic. The bottom line is, don’t forget these tune up runs – they can be just as enjoyable as the highly organised ones!

IMPROMPTU RUNS

I have established a contact list of members interested in Impromptu Sunday Runs i.e. thought up on Fridays or Saturdays and communicated via SMS. If you wish to be included on this list talk with me at the next meeting of SMS your details to me on 0412726420.

It is important that on all impromptu runs members follow some basic courtesies so that we all practice and demonstrate road safety:

1. follow ALL road rules, 2. drive at up to 80 kph (50mph), 3. not lose sight of the vehicle behind, 4. pass slower vehicles if necessary, and 5. if you are slow or have problems, stay in contact with the ‘back marker’.
