LeBlanc, who won both the 10,000 meter run on Friday and the 5,000 meter run, became the first double event winner for the Cow- boys since the 1991 season when Tom McGrath took titles in both races. He ran 14:55.30 in win- ning the 5000 meters and 31:45.74 when he claimed the 10,000 meter race. With 20 points the Cow- boy junior was his team’s leading scorer. In winning the javelin title for the second year in a row, Vidrine became the first McNeese athlete to do so since Craig Andrus did such in 1983 and 1984. Last year he had become the first McNeese conference javelin champion since Andrus and only the eighth in school history when he took the title. Vidrine threw 218-6 to win this year’s javelin title. He posted that mark in the qualifying round and passed in the finals after he suffered a slight in- jury to his throwing arm. Sawe became only the third Cow- boy to ever win a SLC championship in the 800 meters and the first since Andy Blackmore in 1999. Robert Messer won back to back titles in 1973 and 1974. Seven McNeese athletes qualified for the NCAA regionals but none ad- vanced to the NCAA championship event.

Brendon Gilroy, head coach BRENDON GILROY is now in his fourth season as the university’s track and field coach. He is a native of Ireland and ran for the Cowboys during his colle-giate career. He is also the school’s cross country coach and has been in that role for five seasons. Gilroy was a three year letterman for the Cowboys and received his bachelor de-gree in Chemistry in 1993 and his master degree in Health and Human Performance in 1999. He spent nine years as head cross coun-try and track coach at Iowa High School where he was named Louisiana Class AAA coach of the year for both track and cross country. He also led Iowa to two state ti-tles. Gilroy is married to the former Keri Ange, a McNeese distance running record holder and member of the university’s Hall of Fame. He was named the Louisiana collegiate men and women’s cross country coach of the year for the 2010 season.
