System ConceptME30 telmatic combines PLC functionality withmessage processing and conventional telecontrolfunctions in one system.

The CAN bus with its multimaster structure providesthe basis for the design of modular and distributedcontrol systems.

ME30 telmatic uses the CANopen communicationprofile acc. to the CiA DS 301, DS 401 and DS 405standards.

Thus products of different manufacturers (e.g.,sensors, actuators) can be used in order to find theoptimal solution for the specific automation task.

User Advantages

• The ME30 telmatic architecture is equally suitable for smallas well as complex automation tasks. The possibility ofplacing modular units in a distributed arrangement andinterconnecting them in a network offers solutions foralmost any type of task or process in the fields of industryand energy production, distribution and management.

• Process data can be transmitted over differentcommunication paths. Different transmission protocols andinterfaces can be connected by means of gatewaymodules.

• Using the PLC language IEC 61131-3, the system can beprogrammed to implement project-specific control andclosed-loop functions. ME30 telmatic supports theprogramming languages STL (statement list), CSF (controlsystem flowchart), LAD (ladder diagram), ST (structuredtext) and ECL (executive control language). Comprehensive standard and device-specific libraries helpyou to solve your specific task.

• Standardized transmission protocols (e.g., 3964R/Rk512and IEC 870-5-101) are part of the system’s basicfunctional scope. Specific device drivers for the connectionof third-party systems can be implemented, if required.

• Remote configuration, diagnosis and maintenance can becarried out over an analog or ISDN modem connection.Specific modules with an implemented WEB server can beused for the visualization of process inputs and outputs andthe programming of parameters by means of ready-madeWEB pages. You can create your own process-specific WEB pages forefficient visualization and monitoring of process values.

Configuration

The ME30 telmatic offers a powerful configuration andparameter assignment tool that can be used for all modulesconnected to the network and to autonomous modules. Ithas the following functions:

• Interconnection of the network inputs and outputs

• Configuration of the I/O parameters (e.g., input filters,time stamp processing, limit values, etc.)

• Definition of the PLC inputs and outputs

• Programming the PLC functionality

• Configuration of the communication interfaces andtransmission protocols

• Monitoring and diagnosis Configuration and parameter assignment with thisWindows-based software tool does not require anyspecific knowledge of CAN networks. ApplicationIn the ME30 telmatic system, modules with PLC and telecontrol functionality are referred to as processing modules.Processing modules are characterized by the following features:

• Implementation of control and closed-loop control functions acc. to IEC 61131-3

• Two communication interfaces which can be optimally adapted to the specific task by making use of the availableinterface cards and transmission protocols. The following interface types are available: CAN interface, RS232interface, interface for dial line or leased line modem, fiber optics interface, Ethernet interface. A digital input cardfor 8 channels is also available.

• Connection of up to 16 intelligent digital and analog I/O modules (I/O submodules) communicating over the I/Obus and modules with specific functions (radio clock, current balance module).

• Up to 127 processing modules with up to 16 I/O submodules each can be interlinked.

PLC processing acc. to PLC programming over the CAN or RS232 interface using the programming IEC 61131-3 languages STL, LAD, CSF, ST and AS. The programming system supports data

types with a length of ≤ 32 bits, date and time specification as well as characterstrings. The maximum number of blocks (e.g., counter, timer, etc.) used in theprogram is limited only by the size of the available variable memory. Directaccess to the system clock for time-accurate switching is possible.

Fail-safe variable memory: 128 kbyte (retain)

Note:When selecting the transmission method, the network topology and the requiredresponse time must be taken into account. The CAN field bus allows baud ratesof up to 1 Mbit/s for short-distance transmission. For larger distances, thetransfer rate is reduced or the data is transmitted over other communicationpaths (e.g., modem, GMS).

Event-driven and time- ME30 telmatic allows the event-driven or time-controlled acquisition, processingcontrolled data processing and transmission of process data, e.g., event-driven limit monitoring of and transmission messages and measuring values, detection of limit value deviations and time

stamp generation (resolution 1 ms), processing and transmission.

The response times for time-controlled processing can be defined(e.g., time-controlled measuring value processing and transmission).

System monitoring • Monitoring of the processor functions- CPU-internal watchdog, 400 ms time-slot pattern- Voltage-controlled reset function- Power failure alarm- Protected chip select for the random access memory

• Data integrity and data loss monitoring- Analysis and manipulation according to the functionality of the usedtransmission protocols

- Error monitoring in the communication controllers

• Indication and recording of system errors - Fault indication LED (red) and relay (floating change-over contact)- CANopen error messages (list of detected errors according to the specification)- Storage of pending errors- Recording of errors in past event memory (500 entries)

• Monitoring of connected components- Local I/O submodules - Network components- Failure indication on the module in question and over the communication route

Event memory Event and measuring value memory for up to 1 000 entries with time stamp;event-driven or time-controlled storage of messages, counting values or analogmeasuring values with a time stamp resolution of 1 ms.

Spontaneous transmission of events is possible. With this PLC function, user-specific events can be defined, triggered, stored and transmitted.

Description of the Interfaces

CAN interface Can be implemented either as interface for data transfer rates of up to 125kbits/s or as interface with communication processor for data transfer rates of upto 1 Mbit /s. The CAN interface with communication processor is used fortransfer rates of ≥ 250 kbits/s.

All CAN interfaces are isolated and correspond to the standard ISO/DIS 11898.

Up to 127 processing modules with up to 16 I/O submodules each (a maximumof 16 000 data points) can communicate over one CAN interface. Taking intoaccount this maximum number of nodes (127) it is possible to interconnect alldevices of the ME30 process IT system ((ME30 telmatic, ME30 infobox, ME30 infoview).

External devices equipped with a CANopen interface can also be connected.Baud rates: 10 kbits/s to 1 Mbit /s

RS232 interface Can be implemented with or without communication processor. The RS232interface with communication processor is used for Internet communicationbased on the TCP/ IP protocol (implemented WEB server).

The RS 232 interface can be used, for example, for the connection of externaltransmission equipment or operator control and process monitoring systems.Baud rates: 50 bauds to 38.44 kbauds

Ethernet interface The 10 base T connection for twisted-pair cable (RJ45) for a consistentcommunication between automation systems and the IT world. Workstations cancommunicate over the Ethernet network with the CAN field bus.

Digital Input Module for the acquisition of up to 8 digital signals (static messages, transientinformation or counting inputs) with common root (opto-decoupled).

In the ME30 telmatic system, the input/output modules connected to a processing module are referred to as I/O submodules. They are used for the acquisition or output of digital or analog signals and can performpreprocessing functions (e.g.: filter time, chatter stop, limit value generation).

Digital input • Acquisition of up to 8 digital signals, voltage levels:Messages DC 24 V, DC 48 V, DC 60 V, DC 110 V, DC 220 V, AC 115 V, AC 230 V; Counting values with time stamp, resolution: 1 ms, counting frequency: 500 Hz max., Sensor signals minimum pulse duration of 1 ms (depending on the voltage)

• Definable signal filter time, 0 to 250 ms

• Definable chatter stop period

• Programmable ON/Off delay, 0 to 25 s

• Isolated inputs, common root for groups of 4

• Up to 112 digital input signals can be connected to one processing module

• Special input module with internal 24 V DC supply of alarm contacts, fuse failure, wire brake and short circuit monitoring

Each line/column intersection denotes a load shedding relay. The roots of the two relay groups in the S19 RA08 module are supplied with the command voltage from the current balance module. ApplicationIn the ME30 telmatic system, intelligent input/output modules with CAN field bus interface (CANopen) are referredto as CAN I/O modules. They are used for the acquisition, preprocessing and output of digital and analog signals.Up to 126 CAN I/O modules can be operated by one CAN bus. The modules communicate with the network master- which is either a processing module, a gateway module or a PC - at regular intervals (cyclic scan).

In smaller systems where a network master is not required, the module inputs/outputs can be assigned directly (1:1 assignment) by means of the rotary coding switch on the device’s frontplate - no parameter definitionsoftware required.

Network master • An ME30 telmatic gateway module can also take over the role of the masterunit in an CANopen network.

Setting the system time • ME30 telmatic gateway modules can perform the time synchronization in in the CANopen network CANopen networks. The time synchronization is based either on the

external system time or on the internal Goldcap real time clock.

Event buffer • Up to 1 000 events can be temporarily stored in the device’s event buffer.These can be events generated by the gateway module itself (e.g., ”Modulerestart”) or by the PLC program (user-specific events).

Error memory • Device errors and user-specific errors defined in the PLC program are stored inthe error memory. Two types of error memories exist:- the CANopen error memory which shows all currently pending device errors

- the past event memory which stores all arriving and going errors with timestamp up to a maximum of 500 entries.

Description of the Interfacing Functions

CANopen-CANopen • Interfacing of two CAN subnetworks, conversion of transfer rates inconsequence of the different bus segment characteristics, extension of the datatransmission range, connection of a spur line to a network.

• The interface connection between the CAN subnetworks can be established bywire or by optical fiber (multimode, 4 km max. with a transfer rate of 10 kbits/s).

• This coupler is capable of learning which messages to connect. This learningprocess is based on the following procedure: if no messages are received, theconnected modules transmit cyclic send requests for the received messagesover the CAN network. It is thus not necessary to configure the messages to beconnected by means of a CANopen tool, but this can of course be used forspecific tasks (both procedures can be combined).

• The CAN interfaces are electrically isolated (9-pin Sub-D plug connector or ST connector if optical fiber is used). Transfer rates of 10 kbits/s to 1 Mbits/sare supported.

CANopen-IEC 870-5-101 • Connection of CANopen networks with control and visual display systems, dataconnection, remote configuration, diagnosis and maintenance. Bothsymmetrical and asymmetrical operation is supported. The address structure (size of the address fields) as well as the addresses, data types andtransmission characteristics of the individual process variables can beconfigured.

• The IEC 870-5-101 protocol can be used for the following interfaces:

- RS 232 interface

- Modem interface

- Fiber optics interface

gateway module CANopen/ IEC 870-5-101.

• Connection of CANopen networks with control and visual display systems, dataconnection, remote configuration, diagnosis and maintenance.

• The 3964R/Rk512 protocol can be freely adjusted to the conditions of theconnected system by adapting the data blocks and data words in theprotocol’s address space.

CANopen-Mauell-IMS- • Device version and interface specifications are identical with the protocol gateway module CANopen/ IEC 870-5-101

This gateway module can be used to connect devices of the product family”ME30 Intelligent Alarm Systems” (CNA S60, CNB S60, CNA S51, CNB S51)with devices of the system family ME30 process IT (ME30 telmatic, ME30infobox and ME30 infoview).

CANopen-Ethernet • 10 base T connection for twisted pair cable (RJ45) for a consistentcommunication between automation systems and the IT world. Workstationscan communicate over the Ethernet network with the CAN field bus.

CANopen-SUB-NET • Used for the data connection between the bus systems Mauell-SUB-NET andCANopen. A configuration of the module XKOPL is supported for the dataconnection to the SUB-NET bus.

Configuration Software

The ME30 telmatic configuration software is based on the familiar Windows user interface and runs under Windows 95, 98 and NT 4.0. A software version for Windows 2000 is under development. This software combinesthe software components CANopen Studio Standard and CANopen Studio Professional in one configuration tooloffering all functions required for a complete configuration of the modules, including I/O parameter definition,network interconnection, PLC programming and the connection of visual display systems via OPC. An essentialfeature is the possibility of symbolic addressing: signals can be given a technological designation at their sourcewhich is passed on to all data sinks so that the signals can be uniquely identified when defining the parameters,programming the PLC and connecting them to a visual display system. The parameters are specified in user-friendly dialogs which are tailored to the specific device functionality. All entries are checked for conformity. Variousplug-in components for the following areas are provided:

• Hardware selection

• I/O module parameter definition (preprocessing)

• Configuration of communication and transmission parameters

• CAN network interconnection

The PLC programming tool acc. to IEC1131-3 is an integrated part of the CANopen System Studio. Thecorresponding PLC program for the selected device is automatically opened for editing. Connecting the configuration computer to the system bus via a CAN card allows the centralized configuration of alldevices connected to the network. Using the method of observation and debugging, new programs can be put intooperation step by step.

The configuration tool CANopen Studio Standard offers programs for error analysis and parameter and processvariable monitoring. The values can then be written directly to the devices without using the configured datatransmission path.

The Professional Version provides additional plug-in components for the configuration of ME30 infobox andME30 infoview devices which greatly facilitate the integration of these devices in more complex networks and theconfiguration long distance transmission parameters.
