GENETIC ENGINEERING
Genetic engineering also called genetic
modification, is the direct manipulation of an
organism's genome using biotechnology
isolating genes
modifying genes so they can be transferred into
and function within a new organism of a
different species (transgenics) or the same
species (cisgenics)
“knocking out” or removing genes
assessing the success of these new gene
combinations.
IMPORTANCE
Disease could be prevented by detecting people/plants/animals that are genetically prone to certain hereditary diseases, and preparing for the inevitable.
Infectious diseases can be treated by implanting genes that code for antiviral proteins specific to each antigen.
Animals and plants can be 'tailor made' to show desirable characteristics.
Genes could also be manipulated in trees for example, to absorb more CO2 and reduce the threat of global warming.
Genetic Engineering could increase genetic diversity, and produce more variant alleles which could also be crossed over and implanted into other species.
TRANSGENICS is one of the specific genetic engineering processes that remove genetic material from one species of plant or animal and add it to a different species.
An organism that is generated through genetic engineering is considered to be
a genetically modified organism (GMO).
The first GMOs were bacteria in 1973 GM mice were generated in 1974. Insulin-producing bacteria were commercialized in 1982
Genetically modified food has been sold since 1994.

ETHICAL ISSUES
Everything here on earth was created by God with unique characteristics and every time he is done with creating God declared it was good.
God gave mankind knowledge so we can nurture and develop things for our life. Genetic engineering is one of those knowledge but unless human became good steward everything will be futile.
