ThesensorsarecommonlymountedwiththeZ-methodorV-method.WiththeZ-method,thetwosensorsareinstalledonoppositesidesofthepipe.Thismethodoffersashortersoundpath,thus,bettersignalstrength.Itisoftenusedforlargesizepipeswheresignalstrengthismoreimportant.WiththeV-method,thetwosensorsareinstalledonthesamesideofapipe.Thesoundpathisdoubled,thus,themeasurementaccuracyisbetter.Thismethodisoftenusedforsmallandmediumsizepipes.
TheRegalSeriesflowmetersarebasedonthetransit-timemeasurementprinciple,wherethesystemutilizesapairofsensors(AandBinfigurebelow)thatfunctionasbothanultrasonictransmitterandreceiver.Thesensorsareinstalledonthepipewall,clampedontheoutsideofthepipe.Theflowmeteroperatesbyalternatelytransmittingandreceivingacodedburstofsoundenergybetweenthetwosensorsandmeasuringthetransittimeittakesforsoundtotravelbetweenthetwosensors.Thedifferenceinthetransittimeisdirectlyrelatedtothevelocityoftheliquidinthepipe.Theflowrateisthencalculatedbasedonthe
