The importance of measurements and recordings on stormwater treatment facilities

is constantly growing. It is not only authorities who demand proofs and protocols on

impoundage events and overflow volumes; such data moreover represent an

important planning basis for the expansion of previous settlement areas.

In Germany e.g. there are currently around 24.000 stormwater overflow tanks and storage

sewers in use (status as of 01.10.2007). According to the Water Act, operators are

responsible for the correct operation of such facilities.

To prevent water pollution and to ensure environmental protection, these plants (such as

municipal wastewater treatment plants, sewerage systems, stormwater treatment plants

and industrial wastewater treatment plants) need to be checked regularly. Moreover

operators are obliged to create protocols on several operational data.

Using high-quality measurement systems alone is not enough when it comes to

ensuring plausible and accurate results.
