Measuring Insurance Status
• March CPS contains < 900 LA HH– Cannot accurately estimate rates of uninsured
by region or parish
• 2003 LHIS includes over 10,000 HH – over 27,000 individuals
• LHIS allows LA specific design
• 2005 LHIS improves on 2003 LHIS
How the 2005 LHIS was administered by the PPRL:
• 46-station computer-assisted telephone interviewing system (CATI)• 30,000+ phone numbers used based on random and demographic selection• Between May and July, 2005
Result: 10,000+ Household surveys completed in three month’s time creatinga true snapshot of the status of Health Insurance in Louisiana
The 2005 LHIS results are available at:http://www.dhh.louisiana.gov/offices/reports.asp?ID=92&Detail=210
2005 Methodological Advances
• Better definitions of Medicaid eligible households
• Improved sample design
• Implemented Income Imputation
