Mohammed Abdullah, our Mechanical Engineering and
the President of ASME Student Section at MEC and
Head of Academic Affairs in Student Advisory Council
has been selected on board the ‘ASME Student
Regional Board – Middle East and Africa Region’ for
2018-19 session. He has been selected to represent
Oman on the Regional Board.
Our students won the first prize
in the A’Sharqia University
Theatre Festival. The students
also bagged the awards for Best
First Actor, Best First Actress, Best Script, and the Best Director.
February & March
2019
Our student, Kareema Al Amri, won the first place in the Hardware projects category
competition in the 9th Technical Gathering held at SQU for her project “Reverse Vending
Machine”.
Another student, Maya Al Sharji, won the
encouragement award for the Hardware
projects category competition in the 9th
Technical Gathering held at SQU for her
project (Bridges protection device against the
over-weight and high altitude of the heavy
vehicles).
Our student, Aziza Al Mahrouqi, won the Best
Second Role Actress Award in the Youth
Creativity competition that was held on the
governorate level and then at the national level
in the Sultanate of Oman.
Our staff, Roqaya Al Hatmi, launched a project
named “Reading builds the Human Mind” which
has won the first prize as the best reading
initiative in the 23rd Muscat International Book
Fair. In addition, it was chosen to participate in
the Sultanate’s special corner in “Livre Paris”,
the biggest and most popular festival of books in France.
Our students won the second prize in the 8th
Afaq Theatre Festival held at HCT. The students
also bagged the awards for the Best First Actor,
Best First Actress, Best Music, and the Best
Decoration and Lighting.

Employability Workshop by Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering
Department of Electronics and Communication
Engineering organized and Employability
Workshop in cooperation with the MEC IEEE
Student Chapter from 6th to 11th February 2019
at the college premises. The workshop
introduced the students to the skills required
for the job market and how to overcome the
challenges in the career’ world.
Middle East College concludes Oman’s
Entrepreneurial Leaders 2019 Programme
MEC, in partnership with Coventry University,
U.K., and the National Centre for
Entrepreneurship in Education (NCEE),
conducted a programme titled “Oman’s
Entrepreneurial Leaders”. The programme was
sponsored by the Gulf Science Innovation and
Knowledge Economy Program, and managed
by the British Council, Muscat, Oman. Oman’s
Entrepreneurial Leaders gathered at MEC, for
three days, to benefit from this opportunity to
learn and network. The programme was
conducted from 11th to 13th February 2019.
Meet and Greet event by Department of Civil Engineering
Department of Civil Engineering organized a
Meet and Greet event on the 7th of February
2019 at the college premises. The event
showcased the students’ graduation projects
and strengthened their presentation’s skills.
“Creating Fillable Forms using MS Word” by
Department of Mathematics and Applied
Sciences
Department of Mathematics and Applied
Sciences organized a workshop on “Creating
Fillable Forms using MS Word” on Monday, 11th
February 2019. The workshop was presented by
Dr. R. D. Senthilkumar and attended by the
department’s staff. It provided the attendees
with knowledge about creating fillable forms
and performing Math operations.

MEC organizes a Day Out with the Dean
MEC organized a Day Out with the Dean on
16th February 2019. The event was held at
a farm in Barka, South Al-Batinah
Governorate. The event was attended by
about 50 students along with a number of MEC’ staff and their families.
Art and Craft Society organizes the MEC Boulevard Art Competition
The Art and Craft Society at MEC organized a wall
painting competition named MEC Boulevard Art
Competition from 19th to 21st February 2019 at the
MEC Student Hub. Six different teams of MEC
students competed in this competition that was
launched under the theme “Inspiring the Youth”.
The competition supported and enhanced the
students’ talents and skills in drawing and
presenting their creative ideas.
Centre for PG Studies organizes a community
outreach programme
Centre for Postgraduate (PG) Studies in association
with Omani Woman Association, Quriyat, organized
a community outreach event named
“Empowerment by knowledge sharing” on
Thursday, 21st February 2019 at Quriyat, Muscat.
The event was attended by PG staff, PG alumni and
current PG students. The participants conducted a
seminar on various themes including Key elements
of successful marketing strategies, Better living
with technology, Engineering for environment,
Green economy and sustainable environment, and
Environmental good practices for constructions.

The Debating and Literary Society, in collaboration
with the Centre for Foundation Studies, organized
an Inter-collegiate Public Speaking Competition
named MECORATOR 2019 on 26th February 2019 at
the auditorium, MEC Student Hub. About 22
contestants from different higher education
institutions in the Sultanate competed in this competition.
MEC organizes an Orientation Programme
MEC organized an Orientation Programme
for the new students enrolled in Spring
2019 on 27th February 2019 at the college
premises. The programme introduced the
new students to the college’s activities,
rules and regulations, policies, services,
facilities, and life on the campus.
Innovative Practices in Teaching and Learning Workshop
The Department of Computing organized a
workshop titled “Innovative Practices in Teaching
and Learning” for school’ teachers on 27th February
2019 at the college premises. The workshop aimed
at enriching the teaching and learning framework
and building lifelong learners.
The Korean Culture Day
As part of the one-month MEC Winter
School programme, the South Korean
students hosted by MEC, organized the
Korean Culture Day on the 29th of February
2019 at the MEC Student Hub. The event
showcased the Korean culture, traditional
dances and food, and art and craft to name a few.

General Staff Meeting for Spring 2019
MEC management organized the General
Staff Meeting for Spring 2019 on 7th March
2019 at the MEC Student Hub. The updates,
ongoing projects, results of the Staff
Satisfaction Survey and suggestions were discussed during the meeting.
Basketball Championship for MEC students
MEC organized a Basketball Championship for
the college’s students on 11th March 2019 at
the Sports Hall, MEC Student Hub.
MEC participates in Universities and Study Specializations Exhibition
MEC participated in the Universities and Study
Specializations Exhibition that was held in Sohar,
North AlBatinah, from 11th to 13th March 2019. The
3-day exhibition was visited by many students from
the schools in North AlBatinah. It introduced the
college’s services, programmes, and life on campus
to the visitors.
Upgrade Workshop for graduation project’s students
The Department of Computing organized the
Upgrade Workshop in collaboration with
Omantel on 12th March 2019 at the MEC
Student Hub. The event was attended by the
graduation project students and a number of the college staff.

The 6th MEC Health and Safety Gathering
MEC organized the 6th MEC Health and Safety
Gathering on 17th March 2018 at the MEC Student
Hub, Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM). Various
institutions from the public and private sector
participated in the event, which included the Public
Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance, Oman
Road Safety Association, and NMC Medical Centre.
The event was conducted to increase health and
safety awareness amongst the students and staff.
HR Department organizes a Medical
Insurance Awareness Workshop
HR Department at MEC organized a Medical
Insurance Awareness Workshop on the 14th
of March 2019 at the MEC Student Hub. The
event included various activities like a free
basic health check-up, and a question and
answer session related to medical issues.
MEC organizes a Blood Donation Camp
MEC organized a Blood Donation Camp at the
Student Hub in the MEC campus, Knowledge Oasis
Muscat (KOM) on 17th and 18th March 2019. The
event was organised to raise awareness and clear
fallacies about the effects of donating blood on a
healthy individuals’ health, and its impact at the
social level. In addition, it highlighted the
importance of blood donation in saving lives,
realizing its slogan for the event: ‘Give blood. Give
life!’
The 9th Technical Gathering at MEC
The Electronics Club, Computing Club, Civil
Engineering Club and Mechanical
Engineering Club, in collaboration,
organized the 9th Technical Gathering on
19th March 2019 at the MEC Student Hub.
The gathering included various activities
like the community outreach workshops,
competitions, and the technical projects
exhibition.

Career and Training Fair 2019 at MEC
MEC and Madayn organized the Career and Training
Fair 2019 on 25th March 2019 at the MEC Student
Hub, college campus, Knowledge Oasis Muscat
(KOM). With participation of over 20 companies,
the event was held under the auspices of Mr. Tariq
Al Farsi, CEO of Al Raffd and in the presence of
eminent people from both private and public
sectors. The event was aimed at providing a
platform for students, graduates and jobseekers in
exploring career, training and internship opportunities and career guidance.
MEC organizes the Dean’s Cup 2019
MEC organized the Dean’s Cup 2019 from
18th to 25th March 2019 at the Sports Hall,
MEC Student Hub. Different teams
consisting of college students and alumni
participated in the competition.
Awareness Programme on Internships
The Department of Management Studies at MEC
organized an Awareness Programme on Internships
for its students on the 21st of March 2019 at the
MEC Student Hub. The programme included an
MoU signing ceremony between MEC and Al
Madina Logistics and another MoU was signed with
Oman Integrated Logistics Services.
Literary and Debating Society Week at
MEC
MEC organized the Literary and Debating
Society Week from 25th to 27th March 2019
at the MEC Student Hub. The event
included various activities like Book Fair,
workshops on “Draw a word!”, “Arabic
Language” and “Discussion about the
dream of vigilance and imagination”. It also
had a used books corner, charity market, and a traditional Omani session.

MEC organizes COMEC the third
MEC organized "COMEC the 3rd”,
the biggest cosplay and pop
culture event in the Sultanate of
Oman, on the 28th of March 2019
at the MEC Student Hub. CoMEC
brought together the youth of
Oman to have a great time,
showcasing their talents at
trending video gaming, cosplay
and pop culture of the 21st
century. The event included
various activities such as video
games, cosplay catwalk, art valley,
stage activities, neon hour,
and food corners.
GFP Fest – Spring 2019
The Centre for Foundation Studies organized the GFP Fest –
Spring 2019 on the 27th of March 2019 at the MEC Student
Hub. The event provided a platform for the General
Foundation Programme students to showcase their
language, computer and mathematical skills.
Workshop on Photoshop by Department of Computing
The Department of Computing organized a workshop on
Photoshop on the 31st of March 2019 at the college
premises. The workshop was attended by the Multimedia Technology programme students.
