Toothbrush Concept Design
Problem Statement
In India alone it is estimated about 1 billion toothbrushes, representing more than 25000 tonnes of waste are discarded & end up in landfills every single year.
These toothbrushes are made from combination of plastic(made from crude oil) & rubber for the hand piece, nylon for bristles and mix of plastic & cardboard for packaging.
Currently none of these items are bio-degradable and therefore they remain in landfills indefinitely.
Worst they end up in our oceans & washed up on our beaches or consumed by marine life.
If they are burnt, they release a combination of toxic and green house gases.
Toothbrush Concept Design
Need analysis
Durability and usability are the most important things.
Design should have good materials for both the body and the head of the brush.
Easy cleaning and drying after use.
Replaceable bristle head to minimize landfills since bristles are the first to wore out.
Aesthetically pleasing and reasonable price.
Size should be comfortable to hold and grip.

Vegetable peeler concept
Problem statement
Currently available peelers are difficult to grip in one hand.
Peeling rate is low since holding conditions are not so comfortable.
Difficult to remove peeled waste which gets stucked in the gap between the blades.
Most of the blades are not replaceable.
Sharping the blade edge is not easy and not possible is some peelers.
Need analysis
Minimal design with less material.
Replaceable blade.
Better grip.
Long lasting blade and durable body.
Faster peeling rate.
Can accomodate different sets of blades for different purpose.

Pencil sharpener concept
Problem statement
Currently available sharpeners are difficult to grip for children.
Removal of waste is not so easy.
Design is not optimised for children.
