PR 317 Assignment: Media Contact List For this assignment, you'll get to work with one of the most powerful professional PR services out there, the Meltwater Media Intelligence Platform.

Thanks to the forward-thinking folks at Meltwater, you can now learn and use the exact same tools that leading PR agencies and clients employ to manage campaigns.

For this particular assignment, you'll try out their Influencers contact list tool, which makes it easy to find the perfect audience for your press releases and pitches, from over 600,000 actual contacts worldwide.

Using Influencers, you'll build a list of 10 most-promising possible contacts for your press release.

This means you should decide your own search terms and parameters to find 10 journalists and bloggers who would be most interested in your particular non-profit.

Here is the assignment, step by step:

1. Watch this introductory video about Meltwater:

https://vimeo.com/209779711 (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

The password is: X

You can skip to 5:40 to go directly to the "Influencer" tool section.

2. Log on to Meltwater:

You can access our account by going to: https://www.meltwater.com/login/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Here's the first screen--click on the green "Log Into Meltwater" menu box on the far left, in the row of boxes:

On the left, you'll see an option box for "Getting Started With Influencers."

Click on the triangles at the right end of the box for more specific options, such as Location > Countries > States > Cities.

Contacts that fit your search criteria will begin to appear on the right.

5. When you find a promising contact, click on their name.

You'll go directly to their page, where you'll learn more about them:

Do NOT--even accidentally--contact the actual journalists!!!

Page 5: Media Contact List Assignment

This tool is LIVE and REAL, so please be extra careful. Don't click on anything else on their page.

6. Create a Contact List for this assignment.

Click on "Add [name] To List" at the bottom of the main contact-info section, under "Influencer Lists."

Here, you'll have the option to create a New List. Do this with the first influencer you choose, so you'll have your own new list.

Title it "PR317-yourlastname" just like I did for "PR317-Demo."

7. Add 10 contacts to this list.

8. Save/"Print" this list as a PDF.

There's only 1 contact in my demo list below, but otherwise, this is what you'll save/export/print as PDF:

Then, upload the PDF here on Canvas.

Congrats--you're DONE.
