Contents Page Features

Page 2: Media contents page pp 3 done 3

- Masthead and front cover repeated with the front cover generally always in top right, this is because it reminds the reader what magazine they are reading and the front cover reminds them why they are reading it. This makes it easier for the audience to navigate. Furthermore, the front cover is located in the top right because we read from left to right. As a result its located in the top right so it is easily visible but doesn’t detract from the rest of the page.

- Lettering is also located in the top left to reassure the reader of where they are in the magazine.

- The main image always the largest, often with a number next to it so the audience can find the page the main article is on. (For example in this article with Dave Grohl) This again is to make navigation for the reader as easy as possible which makes the reader more likely to buy and read the article.

- Headings for regulars and features make navigation easier for the reader and simplify the layout.

Codes and Conventions of music magazine contents pages

- Issue number and page small in the bottom outside corner, this makes finding pages easy for the reader which means its less effort for them to read.

- Pages are in numerical order to make navigation as easy as possible for the reader.

- Size 11 is the smallest font used, this is because anything smaller than that is difficult to read and means its more effort for the reader.

- A white background is often used to make text and images stand out from the background to make reading them as easy as possible. 2 to 3 different colours are used for text to make the layout simple and easy to understand and navigate.

- Images are in order of relevance to the reader, this means the most important feature in the article (most relevant to the reader) will be the largest - Main image is the largest on the page with other smaller

images on the page also to make the layout attractive and simple.
