Strengths and Weaknesses of my Student Magazine

There are many weaknesses which were made in the production process of my student magazine. It does not meet many of the generic conventions such as different

fonts which will attract audiences into buying it.

The main photo on the front cover isn't of good quality as it was taken with a low quality camera out of a

photography studio. In my music magazine i went to more effort in order to get high quality photos which will

draw readers to there magazine.

The strengths of the student magazine are that the layout follows the generic conventions of a typical

magazine. There is a bold heading so that readers know the name of the magazine swell as the contents page

being bold on the following page.

Presentational Devices Range of fonts and font sizes to differentiate content. Different array of fonts to ensure cover doesn’t look boring.

Price is very small, you have to look for it. Is expensive buyers may not see the price.

Photograph of Florence relates to the main feature. Shows reader what will be in the magazine. By having someone famous on the front cover this will attract more readers to buy the magazine.

Maintains the house style of Q magazine. This means readers who usually buy the magazine will know which magazine it is by the logo and not by having the read it.

Colour theme maintained (Red, white and blue)

Mise-en-scene represents Florence as being bold, unique and mysterious.

Planning for Rock magazine photoshoot

Costume: Greys/blacks to create darkness and mystery, loose clothing at top (not trying to be sexually appealing

Planning for Rock magazine photoshoot

Facial Expressions: the facial expressions of my model aren’t happy or sad, she was

made to look serious and slightly scary. The hair and makeup were made as rocky as possible. Dark lipstick was used to show

the grungy side as well as heavy eye makeup.

Body Language: The model will be looking straight into the camera, this shows

seriousness and that the model isn't to be messed with.

Page 35: Media Coursework

Shot Type: I used a medium close up to show the models face, neck and shoulders. This showed the model with her arms down and

chilled, showing how she is careless.Lighting: I used the best quality equipment i

could get hold of in the school in order to create a quality image. I went to the photography

studio to take the shots and used the lights to get a professional finish. The model faced the light source to ensure no shadows were on her

face. the light wasn't too bright and was a natural colour.

Editing Process for my Rock magazine

After I had taken my photos and decided which ones were best to use on each part of my

magazine i used adobe fireworks and photoshop to edit them.

The editing process included taking away the backgrounds of images using the ‘Wand’ tool.

The editing process was what took the longest in the production of the magazine. A lot of

detail was put in to make sure everything was readable, in the correct place generically and that it worked with the magazine (gave off the

right image).
