❖ In our music video we went for a old fashioned effect on a modern take of the kinks theme of music which we believe was very effective. We created this using mise-en-scene of the costumes which were suits. This theme of contrasting between old and new also continued onto our ancillary products such as the website as the font of writing is similar to that which the kinks used however the pictures used show a modern effect as they have been edited. We used this effect through out so that we had on going continuity which could be easily recognised.

❖ The continuity of mise-en-scene in both the main product and ancillary work hand in hand together as the costumes worn in the picture gallery and the main product are all the same which means that there is repetition through out so that the style we went for was more recognisable by the audience. As we targeted an audience that will both know and not know the kinks as well as the Beatles we decided that we would make both the ancillary and main product original with the modern twist we put on it and a classic story line so that they are easy to follow and are understandable to all. We decided that this was key to the bands marketing as it means that the bands cd will be more recognisable in the shops. Also the locations used are features in all products produced as we wanted to keep them repetitive so that there was no confusion but also it means that the audience can relate to all of the products as there is clear continuity throughout.

❖ The story line that we went for is linked between the three products we created as the female is centre of attention. This is due to the fact that we wanted the males to have to chase after here therefore which ever male got there first won. However this didn't work out for any of the males. We believed that this story line would fit the style that we were going for as it is a modern twist on the 1960's era where females chased males such as the Kinks band members. This feature is why the female is on the album cover and website along with the main product as she is still the centre of attention throughout which gives the band an image that people will remember such as the story line as the female is dominant which links to Mulveys theory of the male gaze as the males are chasing after the female and see her as an object. Therefore it is a good marketing strategy. As shown in the centre picture on the gallery page too the right. This means that as the female is the key to the success of the marketing of the brand.

❖ The combination between our ancillary product and main product is effective as the features that repeat throughout create a brand image. Consequently this makes the band more recognisable through the images, text font, and logo that is used in all products. This links to Mcquails uses and gratifications theory as he believes that his theory suggests that audiences USE media texts for various reasons such as to learn, relax and to get entertained. Here are some of the key features he believes in:

❖ Diversion (escapism) – our music video helps to relive stress due to the comedy storyline that we went for.

❖ Personal Identity – the audience may believe that they can relate to the song and storyline due to personal experiences or due to the age of the song.

❖ Entertainment – The audience we aimed our music video at was a wide target audience which would gain the most from it in terms of enjoyment and entertainment factor.

❖ This all links as it gives the audience some entertainment and something that they can relate too to give them a feeling of satisfaction or self beliefs.
