Question 5: How did you attract/address
your audience?
My Front CoverWhat features attracted my
audience?
PUFF
COVERLINES
PRICE
Cover LinesMy cover lines are centered around
some of the newest most popular pop artists at the moment. Rihanna, Lady Ga-Ga, and Beyonce. I used a simple
font, so it was clear for my audience to read, but I varied my font style and size
to make the writing more exiting. I think my audience would want to find
out all the latest gossip about the celebrities, and by doing this in my
cover lines, I am directly addressing my audience. Another thing my teenage
audience would be attracted to is festivals, therefore I have a cover
directly talking about festivals, to make the want to open my magazine and
read it further.
PriceAs my target audience is teenagers, I did’nt want to make my magazine too pricey. Being a teenager myself, I know sometimes money can be tight. I think £1.70 is a reasonable price, and when I interviewed people, this is how the results turned out.
Male/Female Age How much would you pay for a

£1-2£1.50£1.80£2.00£1.50-£2.50£1.70£2.00£.2/50
After seeing the results, I decided that £1.70 was suitable price and would suit my target audience.
Puff
I used a very particular puff for my front cover. I chose to use a
competition as this appeals to my target audience. Advertising
anything for free attracts attention and is appealing to
young people. The tickets advertised are to see Jessie J,
award winning Pop artist who has a large number of hits. This
attracts my target audience as she is dominant to the pop genre.
My Contents PageWhat features attracted my
audience?
ENLARGED NUMBERS
SECTIONTITLES
EYE CATCHING IMAGES
Eye Catching ImageFor my audience to be attracted to the image, I needed to pose my model in a quirky and unique pose. This specific shot I used was based on Lady Ga-Ga, as I know she is very popular in my target audience of pop. On this photo, I included my Artist’s name in uppercase font, so it stood out more than the text underneath, and also so the audience could see directly that the photo was of Brooklyn. I also included the page number at the top of the photo, meaning my audience can go straight to the page without having to do much reading, which teenagers are not fond of.
Enlarged numbers
I used an enlarged font size for the page numbers of the features mentioned on
my contents page as this makes it easier for my readers to see what they want to look at and flick straight to the
page and story they want. This is particularly aimed at my target
audience of teenagers, as they are known for not wanting to read too much
text. This feature is a common technique used my other magazines of
the same genre.
Section Titles
I used section titles in a similar way to how I used enlarged number fonts. It means the audience can see clearly what item they want to go too. I used artists names to address the reader
to read different parts of the magazine, artists names almost act like brands, once the reader see’s it, they want to read more. By using the
latest pop artists this entices my audience and makes them want to
read more.
My Double Page SpreadWhat features attracted my
audience?LargerFonts
‘Star’ name
DropCapital
Pullquote
Larger/different Fonts
I used large font and different styles of font in my heading to emphasize the artist’s name. This attracts my target audience as once they have seen the name, they will recognize the artist and want to read more. I used the same colour and style font as the heading
‘Megan Seward’ for all of the questions, to make them stand out from the answers. This helps entice the
reader when they see the question as it engages them to find out what the artist answered.
‘Star’ name
In my initial paragraph I included Beyoncé’s name. She is a major dominant pop artist, possibly the most well known and biggest in the world. This automatically connotes quality and knowledge. If
the artist featured on the double page spread has toured with Beyoncé, this proves she must be of a very high standard. This will
make the audience want to find out more about the artist.
Drop capital
I used a drop capital letter in my initial paragraph of my double page spread feature as this attracts the audience to
continue reading. If they have seen the first letter they often want to find out what the word that follows the letter is. Once they have seen the word they might want to read the whole sentence, followed by the whole paragraph. I think this will work for my target audience as they are stereotypical for
being easily distracted.
Pull quote
By using a pull quote it gives the reader an initial look into the
interview without having to read the whole thing. By reading the pull
quote this will make the audience want to find out more about the
artist. My audience are stereotypically not keen on reading
large amounts of text, so by having a pull quote it makes them able to see
if they want to read more.
