Question 6What have you learnt about the technologies from the process of

constructing this product?

The technological skills that I have gained from the production of this product is being able to upload things onto a blog. I learnt how to put my work on blogger and in some circumstances I used Slide Share in order to convert my PowerPoint slide shows onto blogger. The advantage of Slide Share is that it allowed me to put power points on to my blog, rather than just Word documents, which meant my blog was more visually appealing and more interesting. Even my skills on Power Point have improved. I am now more confident in how to navigate through Power Point and how to make my power points look more aesthetically pleasing using different shape tools, fonts and colours.

The advantage of using Adobe Photoshop for my media product is that is allowed me to create a realistic music magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread through the use of layers. Photoshop played a big role in the construction of my media product and although I have used Photoshop previously, I have developed a much greater understanding of how to use it and which tools I can use to improve my work. For example, by doing this media product I have become quite efficient at removing the background of images to give it a more professional look. I have also strengthened my understanding of how to use layers on Photoshop and how to order them effectively so that the layers appear to be overlapping. I have also become more confident in how I use text on Photoshop. The text played a big role on the front cover but more so on the contents page and double page spread. I learnt how to manipulate the font of the text so that it would be the right size to fit in the allocated space it had. For example, on the contents page, I often had to stretch the font so that there would not be big gaps on the page which may cause my magazine to look less professional.

This ‘colour picker’ tool was vital in the production of my magazine as it enabled me to choose colours that I had already used so that the colours would be the exact same shade so would allow me to create an effective colour scheme.

I found the magic eraser tool helpful when I was in the editing stages of my images. It allowed me to remove the background of images without having to spend long amounts of time colouring over the image. This meant I could have white backgrounds for my images, which is a key convention in pop magazines.
