+Paranormal Activity 2

Cinematography: handheld angles and a lot of motion shots to make it seem like the viewer is in the film and can feel the motion. Security cameras are used to make the film seem like it is actually based on a true story and help build fear.

Sound: sound stings used on the pulsing moments, a slight heartbeat sound effect to make a tense moment. Screams and fuzzy white noise when the cuts suddenly change and show a blurred screen.

Mise-En-Scene: some blood around the killers mouth. Very normal clothes and setting, makes the film frightening because it seems more realistic, might make it seem more believable. Use of handheld camera increases realism. Evident use of security camera scattered throughout the house also.

Editing: quick cuts with no transitions but separated by captions and fuzzed screens. Build ups used in the beginning to increase the tension.

+SAW 3D

Cinematography: lots of close up shots to show the emotions and reactions to fearful events. Panning shots to establish settings and occurrences. Fades as a transition between shots that fit with the sound.

Sound: quick and loud sound stings, contrast with the early build up sounds which all move in time with the shot transitions. Screams from in the actual movie and from the live audience supposedly watching the film to show how people are supposed to react.

Mise-En-Scene: Dark rooms and atmosphere, blood, gritty clothing and settings, reminiscent of past movies in the series and other horror movies. Creepy costumes, dolls and pig mask. Sharp metallic objects and machinery (used and quick and violently moving)

Editing: Very quick paced to fit in with the sound and to make a fast and energetic mood. Gives the idea of rushing and fleeing from a serial killer to escape.

+Scream 4

Cinematography: Close ups, establishing and panning shots to show the characters and settings. A lot of the film is revealed and the plot is expected as it is supposed to be a repeat of previous Scream films.

Sound: starts off with a backing track, to seem like all is calm just like a regular day in the village and then the track fades and a threatening soundtrack enters with piano. Also conventional sound stings and loud pulses and loud noises along with the screams of people. The way the characters reference „scary movies‟ acts as some sort of Copy as the film Scream is known for the phrase “what's your favorite scary movie?”

Mise-En-Scene: Starts off in a normal town showing an average day. Other parts of the mise-en-scene include the killer's costume with the ghost mask, fake blood in some parts and the actual telephones themselves.

Editing: starts at a slow pace, then reaches a much faster pace when the tension increases shows a number of victims who will appear in the film.
