Roadmap status – New Standards

• We can now interoperate across the network• 2022-x and 2110• This allowed us to move from SDI to IP Networks• It was fundamental in aligning the technology requirements of Television to the economies of scale

that drive datacenters and the cloud

• We are working on discovery, registration, and Connection management• IS-04 Device Discovery and Registration• IS-05 Connection Management• This will allow us to better control, manage, and operate the devices on the network

• We have revolutionized our networks

• But… We haven’t changed how we operate them

Thinking beyond the physical network

• Native Interoperability of Services in the Network• Playout, Ingest, Graphics, Encoding, Decoding, Archive, Processing, Test

Equipment

• Multi-vendor support for lightweight sharing of data, metadata, and control for media essence

• Don’t we already have this with 2022/2110• Yes but… 2110 and 2022 are unsuitable for cloud and third party datacenters• Network protocols of any kind impact performance and increase latency• Protocols are designed to carry data, not define it

Why do we need more technology?

• Portability – the ability to run when and where services are required

• Efficiency - We need fine grained control over scale to manage costs

• Consistency - We need to simplify how we manage our networks

• Opportunity - Interoperability with third party systems (e.g. ML/AI)
