THE TITLE OF THE MAGAZINEmy title other leading music magazine title’s

Above is the title of my font of my magazine and other titles of similar music magazines in the market today . I chose Dixon because it’s short at punchy, just like ‘Kerrang’ or ‘NME’. Also, there’s a music shop called Dixon in town, so it could relate to that.

MIS-EN-SENCE OF IMAGES

Shown here is my front cover and a similar front cover of Josh Franceschi that ‘kerrang’ has made, and I have chosen to copy There are some similarities being they both have clear head shots of the artists heads that are in the centre, this would attract the attention to the magazine. the tagline just underneath their mouths too, so it’s clear to read. I’ve also imitated the banner on the sides, just like ‘kerrang’ as it includes more detail to the magazine, without making it look to busy.

COSTUMES AND PROPS

The clothes seen in my magazine and other magazines of the same target audience both have kinda similar clothes taste. They’re both wearing just simple jumpers and t-shirts, nothing fancy or any outrageous costumes like you would see lady gaga in. There isn’t any extra props either, just a scenic background.

PEOPLE

I found some similar front cover images to the one like my own, and found that they were all centred with some sort of facial expression going on. No props were used and they are all just standing/lying down singularly, yet they all look clean and groomed. The only major difference between these is that mine has a coloured title, and isn’t in such a bold colour like the others.. I used this to make mine seem more girly as I had an image of a girl on the front, and would also grab the readers attention more.

TITLE FONT AND STYLE

I used the font ‘mesquite std medium’ for my title and decided to use a bright colour so it would stand out and be easily read. It’s like the other titles as it’s in capital letters and is closer together, this could imply a jam packed magazine. It kinda looks like the ‘smash hits’ title however, as it’s a serif font and so is my title.

WRITTEN CONTENT

I think the style of written content between my magazine and other magazines such as ‘rock sound’ (seen below) are very different. They have a different structure and mine doesn’t have big blocks of text, and includes mini images, whereas ‘rock sound’ doesn’t. Mine also consists of two smaller images rather than one big main image that takes up one page. However I think the written content would be similar, as they both have something to do with music and making of records, or touring. Mine involves both.

MUSIC GENRE AND HOW YOUR MAGAZINE

SUGGESTS ITThe music genre off my magazine is ‘grunge/rock/indie.’ I think it shows this well as the image on the front isn’t all dolled up like the celebs these days, it’s just a simple skater-ish model that I've chosen to use. She’s smoking like some teenagers that are into that genre of music do these days, so it represents the same things that they would do it their spare time. Also there are classic live band shots on the cover, most passionate music lovers would rather see a gig live than listen to it, so this shows it well too.I’ve also included alot of bands and artists in my magazine that my inspiration ‘Ross’ would enjoy, as he would be a typical buyer of my magazine.

LAYOUT

These both have very similar layouts as I chose to copy the ‘kerrang version’. Notice how the title is both at the top, however mine is to the left instead of across the whole top. The model is also centred in the middle with text underneath, and a few odd pictures to the side to illustrate what is inside the magazine. There is also a top banner of featuring bands seen on both images, yet my one has another banner located at the bottom, whereas the ‘kerrang’ image doesn’t.

CONTENTS

On the left is my contents page, and on the right is ‘Q’s version of the contents page. Although these appear similar in structure, I think mine is more bold and stands out more as it has a lot more colour and more text boxes and things. They both have the big main image on the right and title boxes to illustrate some of the features. I chose to copy the version of ‘Q’ as it was neatly structured and could get a lot of information in but still look stylish.
