Inanotherexampleofoutreachwithindustryon22April,AIDN-WA,theSocietyforUnderwaterTechnology (SUT)anddefencesubseascompany JFDAustraliaworkedjointlytoconductatourofJFD’sBibraLakefacility.PresentduringthetourweremanyprominentmembersofthesubseaanddefenceindustriesofWesternAustralia,aswellasinterestedpartiesfromothersectors.Referring to the value of the tour, Toff Idrus, General Manager of JFD Australia,confirmed:“Thevisitbysome25executivesandmanagersrepresentingpartsoftheWAsubseaanddefence industry sectors to JFDAustraliawasan immensesuccessfromourperspective."Apart from the pride we took in being able to showcase JFD’s local and globalcapabilities, theopportunitytomeetanddiscoverpossiblebusinesssynergieswithotherWAcompanieswhomshareourpassionintheprofessionalareasweworkin,waspriceless,”hesaid.“A common thread was the understanding that our companies work in sectorswhosebusinessesaremorethanjustaboutcommercialviability(ascriticalasthatisof course) but an implicit ‘care factor’ regarding how our products and servicesmattertothesafety,capabilitiesandoperationsofourclients.”
He furtherelaborated:“Ibelieve JFD is in theprivilegedpositionofprovidingsuchcomplimentary support, products and services to both our defence forces andcommercial subseaclients; somethingnoneofus in JFD takeeither forgrantedorunderestimate."I certainly look forward to working and maintaining contact with the manywonderfulexecutivesandmanagerswhovisitedJFDthatFriday.”TheresponsefromeventpartnerSUTdemonstratedtherealvaluethatisderivedbyindustrytours."SUTisalearnedsociety,whosememberbackgroundsaretypicallyinthemarinesciencesandengineeringstreams,ofteninvolvedintheoffshoreoilandgasindustry",saidIanWilson,SecretaryofSUT’sPerthBranch."We were able to witness first-hand the level of expertise and preparednessrequired to support submarine rescue operations. There are parallelswith subseapipelineemergencyrepairwithoutthehumanelement.“The commercial and military diving equipment on display showed the continualdevelopmentintheseareasbyJFD.Whatwasevidentwerethedifferentdriversandtechnologiesappliedtocommercialandmilitarydivingequipment.“AspecialthankyoutotheJFDstaffwhoexplainedtheirworkwithenthusiasmandcommitment and to JFD formaking the site visit possible. This was the first jointactivity between AIDN and SUT and our expectation is there will be furtheropportunitiesforcollaborationbetweenourmembers".Commentingonthetour,AIDN-WAVice-PresidentTerryBooth,said:"TheJFDtourwas themost comprehensive I have receivedover the years and I am sure itwasappreciatedbyallthemembersoftheSUTwhoattended.”He added:“Following an excellent talk and a video illustrating the phases ofsubmarine rescuewetoured thepremises in twogroups, first taking in the rescuevehicle and its associated apparatus, then the diving sectionwith its re-breathinggearanddecompressionchambers."Seeingallofthisinthecompanyofanexpertwasthebestwaytoobtainalastingimpressionoftheprocessesinvolved".
