Your rightful glory freely did resignThat in our darkened hearts your grace might shine.

Alleluia!

2 You came to us in lowliness of thought;By you the outcast and the poor were sought,

And by your death was God's salvation wrought. Alleluia!

3 O Jesus, let your mind within us be,For you were servant that we might be free

And humbly stooped to death on Calvary. Alleluia!

4 Therefore you are, by God's eternal vow,Most high exalted o'er all creatures now

And giv'n the name to which all knees shall bow. Alleluia!

5 Let ev'ry tongue confess with one accordIn heav'n and earth that Jesus Christ is Lord,

And God the Father be by all adored. Alleluia!

Prayer of Confession: We have too often exchanged the worship of the living

God for idols of our own imagining. As we gather to offer our praises to the holy and

undivided Trinity, and to worship him in spirit and in truth, let us call to mind our sins:

Father, you come to meet us when we return to you:Lord, have mercy.Lord, have mercy.Jesus, you died on the cross for our sins:2

Gospel Reading   Matthew 9.35 - 10.8 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the

labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.’Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness.

These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax-collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed him.

These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: ‘Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, proclaim the good news, “The kingdom of heaven has come near.” Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without payment; give without payment.

The Reflection by Fr Richard Rohr: Franciscan Richard Rohr founded the Centre for Action and Contemplation in 1987 because he saw a deep need for the integration of both action and contemplation. He writes:

If we pray but don’t act justly, our faith won’t bear fruit. And without contemplation, activists burn out and even well-intended actions can cause more harm than good. In today’s religious, environmental, and political climate our compassionate engagement is urgent and vital. Our theme this year is really our original theme, the name of the centre that we chose thirty- two and a half years ago, the Centre for Action and Contemplation. They’re called the supreme Christian art form; really, supreme Buddhist art form - I think any mature religion

would say the same. The point is, how can we do them both together? “Together” is the important word. So, we’ve often said that the word “and,” hidden in the middle, is more important than action, more important than contemplation. How do we act in a heartfelt, in-depth, sincere, loving, truthful way—that’s a lot, I know—and how do we contemplate while not standing or sitting in isolation, that we’re aware that we’re part of the whole, that we’re holding the whole, that we’re one of the whole, that we believe in the whole? We’re not setting ourselves above the whole as if I’m the pray-er and ‘they’ are the prayed for, you see? (I recognize my own complicity in the “burden of sin,” as Paul puts it.)

I recognize too my own enjoyment with the rest of creation in the weight of glory. Now when we can do that, I think we live - when the inner is connected to the outer, when neither one of them is operating independently, but they both feed on one another — hear that in a good way! — that your action feeds on your soul life, and your soul life is moving toward concrete caring for the world.

Take a minute or so to contemplate what this means for you The Lord’s PrayerOur Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Hymn:Among us and before us, Lord You stand

with arms outstretched and bread and wine at hand. Confronting those unworthy of a crumb,

You ask that to Your table we should come.

Who dare say No, when such is Your resolve our first to witness, suffer and absolve,

our best to raise in lives by God forgiven, our souls to fill on earth with food from heaven?

Who dare say No, when such is Your intent to love the selves we famish and resent, to cradle our uncertainties

and fear,to kindle hope as You in faith draw near?

Who dare say No, when such is Your request that each around Your table should be guest, that hear the

ancient word should live as new 'take, eat and drink – all this is meant for you'?

No more we hesitate and wonder why;no more we stand indifferent, scared or shy.

Your invitation leads us to say Yes,to meet You where You nourish, heal and bless.

The Creed: We believe in God the Father, who created all things:

for by his will they were created and have their being. We believe in God the Father  from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named8

the great congregation his triumph shall sing, ascribing salvation to Jesus our King.
