Lewis HamiltonLewis Hamilton was born on 7 January 1985 in Stevenage, England. At the tender age of eight, Lewis sat in a kart for the first time and was immediately bitten by the racing bug. Mercedes-Benz soon recognised the British youngster's enormous talent, becoming one of his sponsors at the very start of his career.

Not only did Lewis show incredible pace on the track, he also climbed the career ladder at an impressive rate. After he had blown the competition out of the water in every category of karting and won the McLaren Mercedes Champions of the Future series, McLaren Mercedes enrolled him on their Young Driver Programme in 1997. In 2001, he moved up into British Formula Renault, winning the title two years later.

Lewis's winning streak continued unabated in the Formula 3 Euro Series. He was crowned junior champion whilst still in his second year and subsequently progressed to the GP2 Series with ART Grand Prix. Despite his rookie status, Lewis dominated the Championship - taking five victories on his way to the title. This success immediately led to his promotion to the very pinnacle of motor racing - Formula One.

Lewis made his Grand Prix debut with McLaren Mercedes on 18 March 2007 as team-mate to reigning World Champion Fernando Alonso, whilst still only 22 years old. Despite his youth, he remained in contention for the title right up until the season finale in Brazil - challenging top drivers with considerably more experience. The numerous records set by Lewis in his rookie season highlighted his class - including the most race wins, pole positions and points scored in a debut season.

What had already been an extraordinary career reached new heights in 2008, with a first Formula One World Championship crown. At the time of his title victory, Lewis was 23 years, nine months and 26 days old - taking the accolade of youngest ever Formula One World Champion. It was undoubtedly one of the most dramatic title deciders in F1 history, with Lewis securing the Championship on the last lap of the final race in Brazil – after a late overtake for fifth place.

Four years later, after six successful seasons with McLaren Mercedes, Lewis sought a new challenge - joining the works Mercedes team for the 2013 season. Lewis secured his first podium in a Mercedes Formula One car in only his second race with the team, at the Malaysian Grand Prix. A maiden victory followed eight races later in Hungary, helping Lewis to finish the season fourth overall in the Drivers’ standings.

2014 heralded the dawn of a new era for Formula One - and a second World Drivers' Championship crown for Lewis, after taking 11 victories and 16 podiums along the way. The season-long battle with team-mate Nico Rosberg ended in dramatic fashion at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The following season, Lewis put in a dominant title defence, which yielded 10 wins and 17 podiums in total – en

route to his third Drivers’ crown, equalling the great Ayrton Senna and compatriot Sir Jackie Stewart.

Lewis achieved a similar level of success in the 2016 season, scoring the most race wins (10) and most pole positions (12) of any driver. The Brit kept his World Championship hopes alive until the final weekend of the season in Abu Dhabi – but ultimately had to settle for the runner-up spot behind his team-mate Nico.

For 2017, Lewis came under pressure from Sebastian Vettel, trailing the Ferrari driver for the first part of the season before a stunning run of form catapulted him into the Championship lead at the Italian Grand Prix. Lewis secured his fourth World Title in Mexico with two rounds to spare and ended the year with the most race wins (10) and pole positions (11) of any driver.

The following season proved to be intense, with Lewis and Ferrari’s Vettel trading places at the top of the 2018 standings. But Lewis took command of the title battle in the second half of the year, securing his fifth Drivers’ Championship in Mexico and ending the year with 11 wins and 17 podiums.

Lewis backed this up with a sixth F1 title in 2019, securing the crown at the United States Grand Prix with two rounds to spare. He equalled the most wins (11) and podiums (17) he’s ever scored in a single season, while also scoring the most points (413). The finale in Abu Dhabi was his 250th race start.

In 2020, Lewis’ career reached new heights, breaking numerous records in a challenging season featuring various calendar changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the course of the year, Lewis surpassed Michael Schumacher’s record of F1 race wins and at the Turkish Grand Prix, he matched Michael’s record of world titles with his seventh Drivers’ Championship.

Valtteri BottasValtteri Bottas was born on 28th August 1989 in Nastola, Finland, entering his very first kart race at the age of six. Over the ensuing decade, the karting circuits of Finland and Europe would become his home from home, where he won numerous Championships and was a member of the Finnish national karting squad for seven years.

In 2007, at the age of 17, Valtteri made the step up to single-seater racing. He immediately impressed, winning two races and finishing third in his rookie Formula Renault 2.0 NEC season, before going on to claim not one but two Championships in Formula Renault 2.0 the following year – sweeping the NEC and Eurocup titles in stunning style.

Valtteri graduated to the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2009 with ART Grand Prix, driving a Mercedes-powered car for the first time. The Finn adapted to the new format successfully, finishing the 2009 and 2010 seasons in third place. In both years, he won the prestigious Formula 3 Masters in Zandvoort – the only driver to win this event twice in succession.

In the following year (2011), Valtteri switched to the GP3 Series, which was then in its second season as a support event to Formula One. He acquitted himself well to the category, securing four victories on the last four weekends of the season to beat his team-mate James Calado to the title.

Valtteri was given his first Formula One test outing by Williams in 2010 and continued in this role in 2011 alongside his GP3 commitments. For the 2012 season, he decided to concentrate solely on his duties as a Formula One test driver, completing 15 first practice outings over the course of the 20-race season. In November 2012, he at last received the long-awaited call from his management team: “Your time has come.”

Valtteri made his Formula One debut in 2013 at the Australian Grand Prix, becoming the ninth Finnish driver to compete in the sport. His debut season turned out to be a difficult one – but he at least outscored his team-mate Pastor Maldonado by four points to one. Valtteri’s moment of glory came in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix when, on a drying track, he gave a virtuoso performance to claim P3 on the grid. He scored his first F1 points at the United States Grand Prix with an eighth-place finish.

Press Information2 March 2021

After a change of engine supplier at Williams for the 2014 season, Valtteri was back in a Mercedes-powered vehicle for the first time since his spell in Formula 3. He registered his best season so far in the highest echelon of motorsport, claiming six podium appearances and scoring 186 points to finish the campaign in fourth position, behind the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport duo of Lewis

Hamilton and Nico Rosberg and three-time race winner Daniel Ricciardo. That year, Valtteri and his team-mate Felipe Massa secured third place for Williams in the Constructors’ Championship.

In the 2015 season, Valtteri once again outscored his team-mate Massa, despite missing the season-opener due to a back injury. He made two podium appearances and finished the year with 136 points. In the 2016 season, his fourth in Formula One, Valtteri secured his team’s sole podium finish, which came in the Canadian Grand Prix, and finished eighth in the standings.

For the 2017 season, Valtteri became the 11th driver to compete in Formula One with the Mercedes team, following in the footsteps of drivers such as Juan Manuel Fangio, Sir Stirling Moss, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. It was a breakthrough year for Valtteri that saw him claim his first pole positions (4) and race wins (3). The Finn scored more points in his first season with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport than in his entire Formula One career before and ended the 2017 season in P3.

2018 proved to be a tougher season, with Ferrari and Red Bull putting up a much more intense fight. It was a season of two halves for Valtteri, with some strong performances early on (narrowly missing out on victories in China and Azerbaijan) before a more difficult second part of the year. He scored eight podiums, two pole positions and seven fastest laps, finishing fifth in the standings – and playing a vital part of the team’s triumph in the Constructors’ Championship.

Valtteri returned to the top step of the podium in 2019 and enjoyed his most successful season in F1 so far – starting off strongly with a win in Australia. In total, he scored four victories, five pole positions, 15 podiums and 326 points – finishing P2 in the Drivers’ Championship and once again helping the team secure its sixth consecutive Constructors’ crown.

In the intense, condensed 2020 F1 season (due to the COVID-19 pandemic), Valtteri played a crucial role in the team defending the Constructors’ title and securing its seventh consecutive Championship triumph. He finished runner-up in

One of these investments included the initial public offering of HWA AG - the company responsible for developing and racing Mercedes-Benz cars for the DTM (German Touring Car Championship), as well as Mercedes-Benz’s successful Formula 3 engine programme. Toto divested his stake in HWA AG in 2015.

In 2002, Toto started a new venture, co-owning a racing driver management company alongside two-time Formula One World Champion Mika Häkkinen. The same year, Toto returned to racing, winning once en route to sixth in the FIA GT World Championship. Further success followed in 2006, when Toto claimed top overall honours at the 24 Hours of Bahrain.

In November 2009, Toto merged his passion for racing and investment by investing in the Williams F1 Team. By July 2012, Toto was the Executive Director of the team, playing a key leadership role as Williams scored its first win in eight years at the Spanish Grand Prix that season.

Less than a year later, Toto was announced as managing partner of the Mercedes-AMG F1 Team in January 2013 after purchasing a 30 per cent stake of Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd.

Subsequently appointed Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport at the end of 2013, Toto went on to assume full responsibility for the entire Mercedes-Benz motorsport programme – from Formula One to Formula E, sports cars and the Formula 3 engine programme.

An entrepreneur, an investor and a racer, motorsport runs in Toto Wolff’s blood. Under his leadership, the Mercedes-AMG F1 Team has clinched seven consecutive Formula One Double World Championships.

At the end of the 2020 F1 season, it was announced that Toto had increased his stake in the team, with Toto, INEOS and Daimler AG all holding one-third equal

When asked why he enjoys working for the team, Hywel explains: “The people I work with throughout this organisation are so enthusiastic and are dedicated to making this the best team that it can be. The ability the team shows to continually evolve and change impresses me every single time. We are never satisfied with the norm and always look to improve.’’

Since June 2020, Hywel has been Managing Director of Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, overseeing the development of the Hybrid Power Unit. It’s Hywel intention as Managing Director to build and maintain a passionate and effective leadership group who are able, with the involvement of all of the employees, to further develop and deliver the company’s targets, strategies and policies.

James Allison, Technical DirectorNationality: BritishDate of Birth: 21 February 1968Place of Birth: Louth, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom

2017 Technical Director, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team2013 Technical Director, Scuderia Ferrari2009 Technical Director, Renault F1 Team2005 Deputy Technical Director, Renault F1 Team1999 Trackside Aerodynamicist, Scuderia Ferrari1997 Head of Aerodynamics, Benetton F11996 Head of Aerodynamic Design, Benetton F11994 Aerodynamic Designer, Benetton F11992 Head of Aerodynamics, Larrousse UK1991 Junior Aerodynamic Engineer, Benetton F1

James Allison is Technical Director of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. Why did James want to work in Formula One? “It was a great alternative to growing up and getting a proper job.” With that answer, it seems inevitable that James would end up in motorsport.

His motorsport career started in 1991, when he joined the Benetton F1 Team as a Junior Aerodynamic Designer immediately after graduating from the University of Cambridge.

Just two years later, James was appointed Head of Aerodynamics for the small Larrouse F1 squad. Sadly, the cash-strapped team struggled for results and James returned to Benetton as an Aerodynamic Designer.

Success soon followed, as James celebrated Michael Schumacher’s Drivers’ Championship success in 1994, with Schumacher and Benetton claiming the Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles the following year.

James was promoted to Head of Aerodynamics in 1997 and, just two years later, swapped Enstone for Maranello and the new position of Trackside Aerodynamicist with Scuderia Ferrari, playing an important role in a period of unprecedented success, as the team won six Constructors’ Championships between 1999 and 2004.

Press Information2 March 2021

After six years in Italy, James returned to the United Kingdom and a familiar home at Enstone, now under the Renault name, taking on the role of Deputy Technical Director. With young Spaniard Fernando Alonso at the wheel, Renault were the team to beat – taking top honours in the Constructors’ Championship in 2005 and 2006.

James was promoted to Technical Director in 2009 and remained with the team as it transitioned to Lotus Renault and later Lotus F1 Team, fighting back to the top step of the podium in 2012 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with Kimi Räikkonen scoring the team’s first win in four years.

In 2013, James headed back to Ferrari, this time as Technical Director. After a fruitless year for the team in 2014, James’ influence was crucial as Sebastian Vettel claimed three wins the following year, when the Scuderia emerged as the closest challenger to the title-winning Mercedes team.

James departed Ferrari midway through the 2016 season and returned to the Formula One grid in 2017 as Technical Director of the Mercedes AMG-Petronas Formula One Team.

When asked what he loves about Formula One, here’s James’ full, non-abridged answer: “I love the fight. I love that it is grindingly, desperately difficult because that is what makes any success so meaningful. I love that nothing about it is vanilla; technology, skill, cunning, personality, humour – everything is extreme. But above all, I love the sense of shared purpose and belonging that comes from being in an F1 Team. It is not a mere job, it is a brilliant, exciting, challenging and deeply fulfilling way of life. All of us who have experienced it are deeply fortunate.”

Rob Thomas, Chief Operating Officer Nationality: BritishDate of Birth: 3 October 1968Place of Birth: Coventry, England

2010 Chief Operating Officer, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team2005 Operations & Quality Director, Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines2002 Vice President, Lean Enterprise – GKN Aerospace Services1998 Operations & Project Manager – TRW Aeronautical Systems Group

Rob Thomas is Chief Operating Officer of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. His automotive career started at just 16 years old, when he left school to start an apprenticeship with Jaguar Cars. He studied Mechanical Engineering at Coventry University and at 22 was working for the Dutch oil and gas company Shell as a Drilling Engineer. After five years spent working on oil rigs, Rob returned to dry land and joined Rover-BMW as a Project Manager. In 1998, he made the move to TRW Aeronautical Systems Group as Operations and Project Manager before, four years later, being appointed Vice President Lean Enterprise at GKN Aerospace Services, focusing on operational improvement.

Rob’s motorsport career kicked off in 2005 when he joined Mercedes-Ilmor. Working with Ola Källenius and Andy Cowell, Rob played a key operational role as the organisation successfully morphed into Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines (now Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains), including powering Lewis Hamilton to the 2008 Drivers’ Championship title.

Recognised for his role at Mercedes HPE, Rob was head-hunted in May 2010 to join the fledgling Mercedes team as Chief Operating Officer. Describing his role in layman’s terms, Rob says it’s “to make sure we manufacture, build and test a car that will be capable of winning races and championships”.

Crucial in pulling the team together operationally as it rapidly expanded in the early Mercedes years, Rob’s work was eventually richly rewarded, as the team claimed a historic seven title doubles, winning the 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championships.

What makes working at Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team special for Rob? “A level of teamwork that is unparalleled anywhere else.”

2017 Technology Director, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team2012 Head of Aerodynamics, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team2008 Principal Aerodynamicist, Renault F1 Team2006 Team Leader, Aerodynamic Performance, McLaren F1 Team2003 Trackside Aerodynamicist, McLaren F1 Team2000 Aerodynamicist, McLaren F1 Team

Mike Elliott is the Technology Director of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team. After achieving a Master of Engineering in Aeronautical Engineering followed by a PhD in Aerodynamics from Imperial College London, Mike embarked upon what would quickly become a steep rise through the ranks of Formula One aerodynamicists – achieving significant success along the way.

But, why did he want to work on F1? It’s a rather interesting story… “The guy I shared an office with during my PhD convinced me it would be an interesting career to pursue,” he explains. “Ironically, he is our Chief Designer now and we sit two desks apart!”

While primarily focused on aerodynamics, Mike has also spent three years on the race team and two years working on the effect of aerodynamics on vehicle handling, giving him a rounded understanding of car performance.

20 years into a Grand Prix career which has spanned three front running-teams (McLaren, Renault and Mercedes), Mike has thus far achieved seven Constructors’ Championship titles and a further eight top-three finishes.

When asked what his favourite memory with Mercedes has been so far, he replied: “Collecting the Constructors’ trophy on behalf of the team. It is a humbling and emotional experience to collect a prize that so many people have sweated blood and tears to achieve.”

John Owen, Chief DesignerNationality: BritishDate of Birth: 11 May 1973Place of Birth: Cambridge, UK

2010 Chief Designer, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team2009 Principal Aerodynamicist, Brawn GP2007 Principal Aerodynamicist, Honda F1 Team2006 Senior Aerodynamicist, BMW Sauber, Switzerland2004 Senior Aerodynamicist, Sauber Petronas, Switzerland2002 Aerodynamicist, Sauber Petronas, Switzerland 2001 Aerodynamicist, Reynard Motorsport, Brackley

John Owen is Chief Designer of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team. He works as “the architect of the car”, making sure that the team makes the right trade-offs between different areas of performance - aerodynamics, Power Unit, vehicle dynamics to name a few – with the minimum of compromise.

When asked about his favourite car that he worked on, John gives a surprising answer: “Strangely, it would be the W04, our 2013 car. It’s the car that suddenly delivered Mercedes to the front of the grid. We came second in the World Championship that year, we won three races, but the technological jump in the team’s capability and the way we designed the car from 2012 to 2013 was the biggest we have ever done and it set the scene for a lot of future developments and the success that we were fortunate to enjoy in subsequent years.”

John started his career in motorsport in Brackley in 2001, working as an aerodynamicist for race chassis manufacturer Reynard Motorsport. One year later, he transferred to Hinwil, Switzerland, to work for the Sauber team. In 2004, he was promoted to senior aerodynamicist for the Swiss team. Three years later, he returned to Brackley as principal aerodynamicist for Honda and in 2010 he was promoted to Chief Designer for the Mercedes works team.

John thinks that the biggest strength of the team is our culture. “We have a team that is very accepting of failure,” he explains. “We’re not negligent in what we do, everyone tries hard, but we accept that failing is a part of what we do, so we need to pick ourselves up and move forward from there and learn from those mistakes rather than blame people.”

Loic Serra, Performance DirectorNationality: FrenchDate of Birth: 30 March 1972Place of Birth: Nancy, France

December 2018 Performance Director, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team2016 Chief Vehicle Dynamicist, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team2013 Head of Vehicle Dynamics, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team2010 Chief Engineer Vehicle Engineering, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team2007 Head of Vehicle Performance, BMW Sauber F1 Team2006 Suspension Engineer, BMW Sauber F1 Team1998 Tyre Vehicle Interaction Engineer, Michelin1996 Quality Engineer, Michelin

Loic Serra is Performance Director of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. His love for racing goes back to his teenager years, when he became interested in go-karting. At the age of 18, he embarked on his first major racing project in his parents’ garage: designing and manufacturing his very own go-kart chassis.

After school, Loic studied at Arts et Métiers ParisTech in Aix-en-Provence and Paris, focusing on Mechanical Engineering. His university gave him permission to work on a completely new go-kart concept together with a classmate. They were granted unrestricted access to the university’s machine shop for the project and ended up building virtually every part of the kart from scratch, even casting their own brake discs.

After graduating from university, Loic took a job with Michelin, working as a quality engineer in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, before transferring to the company’s main R&D hub in Clermont-Ferrand, France. His department worked on new tyres and suspension concepts and he built a deep understanding of vehicle dynamics in those years, in particular the complex interactions between the tyres, the suspension and the car.

Press Information2 March 2021

In 2002, Loic was given the opportunity to develop a new suspension system for racing cars and high-performance vehicles. The suspension concept was proposed to the Michelin customer teams in Formula One and formed Loic’s first touchpoint with the series. Loic joined the F1 R&D department at Michelin afterwards and remained there until the tyre manufacturer withdrew from the series in 2006.

However, Loic wanted to stay in Formula One, so he joined the BMW Sauber F1 Team as a suspension engineer in Hinwil, Switzerland. For the 2010 Formula One season, Loic had the opportunity to join the new Mercedes works team and has been in Brackley ever since. He was intrigued by working for the manufacturer, thinking that “Mercedes won’t join the sport for the sake of it, they’ll come to win”. At the very end of 2018, Loic was promoted to Performance Director of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. He works with tyre, suspension, aerodynamic and Power Unit experts from Brackley and Brixworth to make sure the various characteristics work towards an overall fast package.

His job is to try and find the answer to the complex question: “How do you mix all the ingredients to make the fastest car, which also making a car that suits our drivers?” Loic loves the complexity of his work and how much we’re still learning about the interaction of various components on the car.

Andrew Shovlin is Trackside Engineering Director of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, overseeing the engineering team at the track to ensure we’re extracting the maximum performance from the car and drivers across the race weekend.

It was mechanical engineering and vehicle dynamics that sparked Andrew’s interest in motorsport, rather than the other way around. He was always keen to work in the automotive world but was particularly excited by the clear objectives and fast pace of development in F1.

Andrew – known among the team and Formula One paddock as ‘Shov’ – studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds, remaining there to complete his PhD in Vehicle Dynamics and Simulation. After graduating, he joined British American Racing (BAR) in 1998 as a Vehicle Dynamicist, ahead of the team’s F1 debut the following year.

Following BAR’s early seasons in the sport, Shov moved into the role of Assistant Race Engineer in 2001, before becoming Jenson Button’s Senior Race Engineer from the 2004 season onwards. He remained in the role through the team’s transition to Honda in 2006, with both Jenson and the Brackley-based team claiming their first victory at the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix.

Press Information2 March 2021

Following two difficult seasons, Honda withdrew from F1 at the end of 2008, with the team becoming Brawn GP for the following season. Shov continued as Jenson’s Senior Race Engineer and helped guide him to the Drivers’ title, while also playing his part in the team clinching the Constructors’ title during the fairy-tale 2009 season.

The 2010 season brought plenty of change, with Mercedes buying the team, returning to F1 as a works outfit and convincing Michael Schumacher to come out of retirement and drive for them. Shov was Michael’s Senior Race Engineer for his first season back in F1, before advancing to the role of Chief Race Engineer in 2011.

Since the 2017 season, Shov has been the team’s Trackside Engineering Director. He’s experienced some incredible moments during his time in F1 so far, which have all happened through different iterations of Brackley’s F1 team. But, one memory in particular, stands out for him…

“Winning the 2016 Monaco Grand Prix was some of the most fun I’ve had on a pit wall,” Shov said. “Our car wasn’t working nearly as well as the Red Bull and Daniel Ricciardo had been really strong all weekend. It was a wet weekend and James Vowles and I had talked at breakfast about whether you could get away with going straight from full wets to the dry tyre at Monaco.

“We had nothing to lose in the race so gave it a go and it worked out. Red Bull ultimately made a mistake in the pits that took them out of contention, but we’d managed to put them under pressure on a day when they had so much pace in hand and that was what ultimately won us the race.”

When it comes to his favourite thing about working for the team, which he’s been involved in from the very beginning, Shov says it’s the people that he gets to work with. “We enjoy the good times but also know how to stick together and turn it around when things aren’t going our way.”

CrowdstrikeCrowdStrike was founded to fix a fundamental problem: The sophisticated attacks that were forcing the world's leading businesses into the headlines could not be solved with existing defences. Co-founders George Kurtz and Dmitri Alperovitch realized that a brand-new approach was needed - one that combines the most advanced endpoint protection with expert intelligence to pinpoint the adversaries perpetrating the attacks, not just their malware.

Our new platform, which we named Falcon, gives our customers the unique ability to detect and prevent never-before-seen attacks while they are still in progress - protecting organisations against threats their conventional defences could never see. It even gave rise to an entirely new science for detecting adversary activity.

For us, it's all about securing our customers' brand, data, and people. The hacking and the cyber-attacks we see in the media do have a lasting impact on people's lives. At CrowdStrike, we are extremely proud to provide this level of protection to a rapidly expanding base of customers around the world. It's a responsibility that we take very seriously, and it drives us in our hunt for new threats and innovative ways to stop them.

BrixworthHome of Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP)The roots of Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP) stretch back to 1984 and the foundation of Ilmor Engineering Ltd by Paul Morgan and Mario Illien, with funding from Roger Penske.

Since 1995, the team in Brixworth has been responsible for the design and development of every single Formula One engine to wear the Mercedes-Benz badge.

Renamed Mercedes-Ilmor Ltd in 2002, the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG in 2005, operating under the name of Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines Ltd.

Today, Brixworth is a state-of-the-art technology campus where around 700 talented people work on engines and powertrains for Formula One, Formula E and high-performance hybrid road cars. For the Formula One project, the team at Brixworth designs, manufactures and tests the Hybrid Power Units for the Mercedes works team as well as customer teams Williams Racing, Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One Team and McLaren F1 Team.

The first victory of the modern era for Mercedes-Benz occurred at the 1997 Australian Grand Prix, after which V10 and V8 engines from Brixworth powered World Championship victories in 1998 (Drivers’ and Constructors’), 1999 (Drivers’), 2008 (Drivers’) and 2009 (Drivers’ and Constructors’). The company was also awarded the prestigious Dewar Trophy for Technical Excellence in 2009 for its Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), the first ever Hybrid system to win a Grand Prix at the 2009 Hungarian GP.

In the new, Hybrid F1 era, Mercedes-Benz V6 Power Units have powered the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team to seven consecutive Championship doubles (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) – which is a record for

the most consecutive double titles in the sport’s history. Today’s F1 Power Unit from Brixworth is one of the most efficient internal combustion engines ever built, reaching over 50 percent thermal efficiency.

The technology centre in Brixworth has been fully operational since late 2009, providing the team at HPP with cutting-edge and continuously upgraded facilities. The site covers a total area of 126,000m2. The technology centre holds the international environmental management system certification ISO 14001 and produces approximately 10% of its electricity from a Solar PV system located on its roof and around 45% from an energy efficient on-site CCHP plant.
