Do you know an employee who goes above and beyond the duties of
their position at Medic? Do you know someone who has a positive
attitude about their job and loves being a member of this Agency?
Medic is expanding upon the awards that will be given at our Employee
Recognition Event which will be held on both June 7th and 8th. The Employee Recognition Team
is asking for nominations from employees on a new award added this year - the Unsung Hero
Award.
Nominations will be accepted for employees from across the Agency that represent what it
means to be an Unsung Hero. Nominees should consist of those employees who lift up their
peers and coworkers, love working for Medic and their position, are excited to do their work,
and are very patient/community driven. The Unsung Hero is a humble employee who leads by
example; a silent leader. Please keep in mind that nominees can be from any department across
the entire Agency.
Don’t let your coworker go unnoticed for the work they do at Medic, nominate
him/her for a 2010 Unsung Hero!
Please send all nominations to Kristin Young at [email protected] by 5:00 pm
THIS WEDNESDAY, May 4th. Nominations must include the following:
Your Name
Contact Phone Number/Email Address (if we need further clarification)
Nominee Name
Nominee Supervisor (if known)
Briefly describe why the nominee should receive an Unsung Hero
Award
Thank you for your help! If you have any questions for the Employee Recognition Team, please
direct them to Kristin Young at ext. 6165 or via e-mail at [email protected].

There were several questions raised about the current shift bid process and some clarifications needed to be made for all
field employees. The Scheduling Department has listened to your questions and has created a summary of the shift bid
process and a few clarifications for employees. If you have any further questions, please contact Bryan Runyan,
Supervisor of Schedule & Deployment at [email protected] or your immediate supervisor.
Important Shift Bid Dates
Today, May 2nd – DAY 2: Live Shift Bid Continues (0800 – 1800)
Tuesday, May 3rd – DAY 3: Live Shift Bid Final Day (0800 – 1830)
Shift Bid Process Clarifications
Bid Form: Some employees did not select enough shift bid choices as a result it is imperative that you are available for
your appointment time. If all of your shift choices are filled you will have to make another selection. If Scheduling is unable
to contact you, you will be administratively placed.
14-Hour A/B Shifts: Rotates exactly like the 12-Hour A/B Shifts, however on the 4 day work week, you are ALWAYS
OFF on the day indicated on the shift listing sheet. 14-Hour trucks only work 3 days per week.
Buddy Bidding: If no desired shifts are available during your bid time, you can bid individually. The highest ranked
employee will then bid at that appointment time and the lowest ranked employee will be assigned a new bid time based
on their ranking.
Relief Operations Supervisor Shifts: A few shifts are designated for Relief Operations Supervisors; these shifts will be
indicated as such during the hourly web link update (link below).
Future Budgeted Shifts: Some shifts were created/added based on our anticipated call demand – these shifts may be placed
under “future budget shift” status. These shifts will be awarded and employees placed once staffing reaches an
appropriate level.
On-Duty Crews: Crews will not be rotated into Post 100 if their shift bid appointment time is while on-duty. Employees
need to provide a phone number on their bid form, so they can be reached while on-duty. However, the shift bid process
will be halted until that on-duty employee (who is on a call) can be reached! However, if an employee, who is on-
duty and is NOT on a call cannot be reached, scheduling will not hold the bid for them.
Shift Bid Location: Post 100 Auditorium
Future Bid Rankings: Employees’ ranking can possibly move throughout the year based on their performance score. This
means you do not need to wait an entire year for your rank to change; scheduling will always use your most current
performance score.
Website Link
Employees will be able to view the shift schedule online to see available shifts prior to their shift bid. The shift listing will
be updated hourly by Scheduling. Please visit the link http://www.medic911.com/shift_bid to view the most current shift
schedule.

The Medical Journal and
ECG Club held their April
meeting on the patio of
the Flying Saucer. The
group reviewed two
articles from the Journal
of Prehospital Emergency
Care: Study of Placing a
Second Intravenous Line in
Trauma, and Effectiveness
of Prehospital Morphine, Fentanyl, Methoxyflurane in Pediatric
Patients. The analgesia article comes from Australia and,
according to this study, they're getting some remarkable
effectiveness. As for ECG's, the group pondered some
STEMI mimics with an emphasis on ventricular hypertrophy
and bundle branch blocks.
The final Medical Journal and ECG Club meeting of
the Spring is tentatively scheduled for1:00 pm
THIS THURSDAY, May 5th at the Flying Saucer. It's
not too late to get in on the final meeting!
Please contact Mike Sherriff [email protected] if you
are interested in attending the final meeting of the Spring.
