The Medical Assisting program at Lake Washington Institute of Technology prepares students for a variety of exciting and challenging medical office positions. Whether you’re a recent high school graduate or looking for a new career, this program will give you the administrative and clinical skills you need to find a rewarding job as a medical assistant. Medical assistants are instrumental in helping patients feel at ease in the doctor’s office and often explain the physician’s instructions. They enjoy daily contact with patients, while working alongside physicians and other health care professionals. and clinics.
Medical assistants have a wide
variety of job responsibilities and
are cross-trained to perform many
administrative and clinical duties.
Medical assistants can also advance
to office manager, clinical
supervisor, or qualify for a variety of
administrative support occupations.
In addition, some medical assistants
become instructors or pursue a
bachelor’s degree in related health
programs, such as Public Health,
Health Services Management, and
Physician’s Assistant.
Program Highlights This program will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to excel as a medical assistant, including: • Human anatomy, physiology and pathology • Medical terminology • Medical law and ethics • Keyboarding and computer applications • Record keeping, accounting, coding and
insurance processing • Office practices, reception, filing • Clinical and diagnostic procedures • Laboratory techniques • Pharmacology and medication administration • Patient relations
Graduates of this program are eligible to take the national Certified Medical Assistant examination offered by the American Association of Medical Assistants.
