His practice, he was glad to say, was as good as ever, and his patients stauncher friends than before. Pancras have begun to carry out their new arrangements forthe administration of relief to their outdoor poor ; instead ofthe 7600 outdoor poor of this extensive parish being compelledto attend at the workhouse to receive relief, they will nowhave to attend at the offices attached to the districts intowhich the parish has been divided for this purpose. Untilpermanent buildings can be erected, Grafton Hall, near Fitz-roy-square, and Milton Hall, near the Red Cap, Camden-town,have been opened as district relief offices; and a plot of groundin Compton-place, near Brunswick-square, has been taken onlease from the governors of the Foundling Hospital, for thepurpose of building another district relief office, for the poorof the Gray’s-inn-road and Somers-town districts; and also adispensary, under the provisions of the Metropolis Poor Act,1867, sections 38 to 40.-Pall Mall Gazette.CANADIAN MEDICAL REFORM.-The Medical Society

of Quebec is endeavouring, now that the Act of Union haspassed, to give a certain uniformity to the medical examina-tions of the universities and colleges of the Canadian Union. Akind of congress is convened, where resolutions, agreed to bythe Society, should be discussed. The purport of these is torender the degrees conferred a merely honorary matter, a centralboard being appointed to examine the candidates who proposeto practise in the Canadian dominions. Now this is the verysystem of which many German physicians, especially Dr.Rudolfs, of Bremen, are complaining. It is well known thatthe governments of the various German States have depriveduniversities of their rights, by ignoring their examinationsaltogether, and making ir, incumbent upon whomsoever wishesto practise to submit to examinations instituted by the State.Whether the universities, by laxity or other causes, deservedthe slight, is another question ; but the Canadians had betterlook to it before they wantonly lower the value of their uni-versity and college examinations. By this act bad will becomeworse, if bad really exists. The State, in Germany, is notonly tyrannical as to examinations, but the petty restrictionsfrom one tract of land to the other are very vexatious. Infact, the medical profession in Germany may be looked uponas being under a heavy thraldom. Let a medical council, suchas we have in this country, watch over and control the univer.sities and corporations, but let not these be lowered to thie

ground.
