OUR EVERYDAY FRIENDS


• Students may arrive as early as 7:45, but no earlier. There will NOT be supervision

before 7:45.• Kinder students who arrive between 7:45-7:55 will wait outside of their Kinder classrooms.

• 2nd and 5th Grade students who arrive between 7:45-7:55 will wait in the basketball court area.

• 1st, 3rd and 4th Graders who arrive between 7:45-7:55 will wait next to the preschool playground on

the blacktop area.

• Students will wait socially-distanced (3-feet) as they wait to enter the building.

• Students who arrive at school between 7:55-8:05 will walk toward and enter through

the doors aligned with how they arrive to school – map to follow.

MORNING ARRIVAL



Car rider traffic is heavy and the City of Medina is engaging in ongoing construction. Please be patient and follow designated signs and staff directions. Always PULL FORWARD until the next car is directly in front of you.

Students should sit on right side (curbside) and may get out as soon as the car comes to a stop. All student belongings should be gathered before entering school lot.

School staff will be outside to support exit of car. Drivers/family members should NOT get out of the car at any time

CAR RIDER ARRIVAL


• Students walking to school should not

arrive at school until 8:00 to minimize

crowding.

• Parents who walk students to school will say

goodbye in the designated area if possible

• If you arrive prior to 8:00 please socially

distance in the walker area. At the end of

each day, parents should wait for their child

at the same spot.

• Mask must be worn on school property by

community for anyone over 2.

WALKERS


BUS RIDERS

• Transportation Department will be sending route and

time information for students who qualify

• Students will sit one to a seat unless they are siblings

• Mask must be worn, windows will be open

• Drivers will sanitize high touch areas

• More guidance from Transportation will be shared with

affected families.


• Students will be greeted by our staff and prompted to

use hand sanitizer upon entering the building.

• Students are considered on-time if they enter the

building by 8:05.

• Students who arrive after 8:05 will be marked tardy.

• Please plan and dress accordingly. Be sure to

account for traffic and other barriers to arriving at

school on time. Together, we can accomplish a

smooth arrival!

ARRIVAL & ATTENDANCE


• Students will arrive at their classroom

door/hallway between 7:55-8:05.

• Students will be directed to use hand

sanitizer (or wash hands) when entering

the classroom.

• Students’ temperatures will not be

checked upon entering the classroom.

CLASSROOM ARRIVAL


• Students get TWO 20-minute recesses on M,

T, Th, F, and ONE 20-minute recess on W.

Recess on Wednesday occurs BEFORE

lunch.

• Students will utilize hand sanitizer or wash

hands each time they enter and leave for

recess.

• We will require masks at recess for the first

few weeks of school to support student

adjustment.

• If a student needs a mask break outdoors,

we will ask them to move away from peers.

RECESS


NOTE: Students will have up to 25 mins

to finish lunch if needed.


• Students will sanitize their hands before heading to their designated student lunch

location – indoors in the cafeteria or outdoors in the covered area.

• Teachers will walk their students to their designated lunch location and ensure students

are in assigned seats/spots.

Lunch facts:

- 5 lunch sessions, one per grade, with exception of K/1 together, in cohorts

- 3+ feet indoors and outdoors, per CDC guidance

- Assigned, consistent seating in class cohorts by teacher (no requests)

- Maximized air ventilation – doors open

- Masks will be worn except when actively eating and drinking at assigned seat

- Students will sanitize hands before and after eating lunch

- Lunch areas cleaned and sanitized before each new lunch period

- Custodial and General School Assistants, as well as office staff, maximized for sanitization

• Students will sit in classroom zones, socially distanced at 3-4 feet.

• Students eating outdoors may bring their own seating cushion for comfort, but it must be labeled and is the responsibility of the student.

• We have ordered easily-sanitized cushions which have a delayed arrival due to supply chain. For the first few days, we will use paper underneath bottoms ☺

All lunches are free this year for all studentsParents may also send student to school with lunchMilk is also free, will come with a vegetable and fruitWe do not have a cashier this year since all lunch is free.

There may be new packaging, containers, trays, etc. for lunch. As of now, lunch is buffet style.

MEALS


• Students will have an opportunity to have snack during the day, based off

teacher preference.

• Students may bring their own snack and water bottle – please check with

teacher for nut free zone.

• Students will wash or hand sanitize before enjoying snack.

• Teachers may choose to bring students

outside to enjoy snack-time as a class.

• Teachers may choose to have students rotate

eating snack in classroom ensuring 6-foot

distance (rotating removing masks for every other

student).

SNACK


WHAT TO BRING TO SCHOOL

• Labeled water bottle to keep in backpack

• Appropriate shoes/boots and raincoat

FACE COVERINGS

• All school personnel, volunteers, visitors, and students must wear face coverings, or acceptable alternative at school when indoors.

• Please review proper mask use/wear with students.

• Face coverings are not required outdoors (except for the first week and a half of school), regardless of vaccination status, but Medina staff will encourage them until guidance changes.

• Masks are strongly recommended for unvaccinated individuals.


SIGNAGE THROUGHOUT SCHOOL


• We are waiting for specific guidance from BSD. Stay tuned for guidelines by early next week.

• For now, if you need late arrival or early pick up, please contact the school office and CALL to them the office know of your arrival. We’ll then send your student out to meet you.

• For drop-off items please use the drop-off bins outside the main doors – labeled NURSE. We will monitor it regularly and make deliveries to students and teachers.

• We hope this level of caution will be able to ease up as we gain guidance around monitoring vaccination status. Families and volunteers are allowed on campus when supporting outdoor activities.

• We will release a virtual tour of Medina by 9/8.

VISITORS AND VOLUNTEERS


• Desks have been spaced 3 feet apart, per CDC guidance

• Extra furniture has been removed and stored as needed

• Students can use cubbies for their items based off teacher preference

• Each classroom is equipped with sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer.

• Extra child-sized masks are available in the main office.

CLASSROOMS


We will clean and disinfect high touch surfaces(doorknobs, faucet handles, restrooms, etc.) each night after students leave and when someone is sick.

Teachers/Specialists and students will sanitize as needed throughout the day in shared classrooms, Walk to Math, etc.

Drinking fountains and bottle fillers do not need to be disabled, but buttons will be cleaned regularly.

SANITATION AND VENTILATION


Students and staff who are sick should not attend school or work in-person.

Parents, caregivers, or guardians should be strongly encouraged to monitor their children for symptoms of illness every day.

The WA DOH and CDC do not currently recommend schools conduct symptom screening on a routine basis.

STAYING HOME WHEN SICK


• Any student, teacher, or staff who reports COVID-19 like symptoms must be immediately isolated from others in a designated isolation space and sent home and referred for diagnostic testing as soon as feasible

• Districts must contact trace and report to public health all instances of COVID-19 in the system

RESPONSE TO CASES AND SUSPECTED CASES


RESPONSE TO CASES AND SUSPECTED CASES

Isolation is when someone who has COVID-19 symptoms or has tested positive stays home and away from others.

Quarantine is when someone who has been exposed to COVID-19 stays home and away from others in case they were infected and are contagious

Regardless of vaccination status individuals in isolation can return to school when:• 10 days since symptom onset, or since positive test date

if no symptoms are present AND• 24 hours after fever resolves without the use of fever

reducing mediations AND• Symptoms have improved

• 14 days after the last exposure OR• 10 days after the last exposure OR• 7 days after the last exposure if there are no symptoms

and a negative test result no sooner than 48 hours before ending quarantine

Exceptions :• Close contacts who are fully vaccinated and do not have

symptoms. • Close contacts that had a confirmed case of COVID-19 in

the prior three months

In a K-12 indoor classroom, the close contact definition excludes students who were at least 3 feet away from an infected students when a) both students were wearing face coverings and b) other prevention strategies (mitigating measures) were in place.


Diagnostic testing looks for infections in individuals who have symptoms of or have been exposed to COVID-19.

Schools must ensure access to timely diagnostic testing among students with symptoms or who are close contacts of someone with COVID-19.

Bellevue currently has free diagnostic testing for any individual at Bellevue College.

Screening testing looks for infections when there is no reason to suspect an individual is infected and are not required for school districts at this time other than for select athletic programs.

However, BSD will work with Learn to Return, an OSPI sponsored resource, to implement a screening protocol.

Bellevue School District continues to follow King County Health Department quarantine rules

for travel.

Anyone traveling out of Washington State who is unvaccinated is asked to quarantine for 7

days and have a COVID test taken the 3rd-5th day after your return. If you have any questions,

or if your student will be traveling out of state the week before school starts, please email
