MEDITARI ACCOUNTANCY RESEARCH /SAAA TEACHING AND LEARNING CONFERENCE

CONFERENCE PHILOSOPHY & ORGANISATION

The conference provides a platform for the presentation and sharing of research in accountancy, broadly defi ned. For 2020, the biennial Teaching & Learning Conference of the South African Accounting Association forms part of this Meditari Accountancy Research Conference with a separate Teaching & Learning track that focuses on research in Accounting Education.

The conference endeavours to maximise the learning and feedback opportunities for all attendees, from experienced researchers to early-career academics, focussing specifi cally on getting papers ready for submission to a refereed journal and maximising a paper’s chances of being accepted for publication. At the PhD/early-career colloquium, experienced researchers will provide feedback to colloquium participants. On the fi rst day of the conference itself, several papers will be presented in a plenary session (i.e. all conference attendees together) with ample time for each paper to be presented and for discussion and suggestions for improvement. The second day of the conference will consist of presentations and discussion of papers in parallel sessions to ensure that attendees get the opportunity to present and obtain feedback on their research.

Meditari Accountancy Research is a double blind refereed research journal. The journal takes its name from the Latin for constantly pondering, suggesting a journey towards a better understanding of accountancy related matters through research. Meditari Accountancy Research

publishes interdisciplinary research in the main subject areas of accountancy, as well as research examining other questions of interest to the broader accounting community. Scopus’ citescore for 2017 ranks the journal twelfth of 130 accounting journals. The journal is ranked on the British Chartered Association of Business Schools journal list, the Australian Business Deans Council journal list and the Australian ERA journal list, and is on the South African DHET accredited journal list. Please email a 5 page summary (all inclusive and in 12-point font size), including three specifi c questions you need feedback/guidance on, to phillip.dejager@uct.ac.za between 1 and 9 April 2020. Please put “Meditari colloquium” in the subject line of the email. Colloquium attendees are expected to attend the main conference as well.

A C C O M M O D AT I O N

Delegates will have to book their own accommodation nearby. Breakwater Lodge, a Protea Hotel, is situated on the campus where the conference will take place (www.breakwaterlodge.co.za). The conference will start at 9 am on 29 June 2020. The dinner that evening and lunch on both days are included in the conference fee.
