Refractive stress control is the most suitable method for medium voltage cable accessories. It offers the following significant advantages over other methods:

• Leaner stress control element design, enabling the development of compact solutionswhich are very easy to assemble.

• Reduced sensitivity to incorrect positioning or incorrect cable preparation, allowing compensation for errors made during assembly.

Refractive stress control influences the electric field by means of a combination of two insulation materials having different dielectric constants. The insulation material with the higher dielectric constant is placed in the area at which the higher electrical field strength occurs. The use of the term “refractive“ derives from the fact that the process deflects electric field lines which cross the surface of these materials at an angle

Stress control element (FSE) made of a special silicone rubber, manufactured using injection-moulding. This product owes its uniqueness to its optimized design and to the specificproperties of the HTV silicone rubber used. The dimensions of the cylinder body have beencarefully selected to ensure that a single stress control element size is compatible with a widerange of medium voltage cable cross-sections.The permanent high elasticity of the silicone ensures that a constant pressure is applied to thecontact surface under all operating conditions. The high gas permeability of the special materialconstitutes a significant advantage. As a result of constant pressure on the contact surface,pockets of air arising during assembly will completely diffuse through the stress control materialwithin a few minutes. This protects the cable accessory against partial discharge under alloperating conditions.

Joint body consist of an inner conductive electrode which acts as a Faraday cage around the connector with the main insulating layer above it, and an outer semi-conducting layer. Each joint body comes equipped with an integrated slip-on auxiliary device for easy assembly and the prevention of damage during installation.

Stress control at the cable end is achieved as above, by simply sliding our proven and tested silicone rubber stress control element onto the prepared cable using the patented applicator. A special feature of the Contrax joint is that the stress control element is also used to control the electric field on the inner semi-conducting layer of the insulating body at high voltage against the outer semi-conducting layer of the joint body at earth potential.

The special creepage tracking resistant silicone rubber composite used on all CELLPACK Contrax termination kit is characterised for having excellent resistance against ozone and UV radiation, as well as exceptional hydrophobic properties. Its unique design has undergone years of rigorous testing under challenging climatic conditions. The compact optimised design, minimises assembly, storage and transportation costs to energy suppliers.

Contrax termination kit is designed to withstand severe weather conditions and fulfill all the requirements of various international test standards.

The installation of the terminations kit is practically performed in one quick and easily slip-on step through a patented applicator.

By this safety method of installation faulty cable preparation or false body positioning is avoided and the volume of potential installation defects is drastically reduced.

For the application in three-core cables a cold shrink silicone spreader cap and cold shrink tubes are used for ensuring simple and accurate assembly.

Stress controlOur refractive stress control system, provenmillions of times around the world, is alsointegrated into our Cellplux Plug-In connector kit.Faulty cable preparation and faultystress-control body positioning are eliminated,thus drastically reducing the number of potentialmounting mistakes.

Shear bolt cable lug and shear bolt contact boltCellplux plug-in cable connectors have a proven shear boltconnection system.The diameter of the cable lug is designed to ensure a reliableconnection for copper conductors as well as aluminiumconductors over the entire range of cross-sections. Its contactscrews have been optimised so that only a single conventionaltool is necessary for assembly throughout the entire cross-section range. This proven system is already integrated into theCTS plug-in contact bolts, thus eliminating incorrect assembly ofcable plug-in components.

All materials are characterized by exceptionally high resistance to ozone and UV radiation have undergone decades of rigorous testing under challenging climatic conditions and have proven themselves in innumerable installations all over the world.

Stress control within cable terminations is achieved in thesame way as for the hybrid joint system- by simply slipping theproven and tested silicone rubber stress control elements ontothe cable end, using the patented slip-on auxiliary device.

The main insulation material used in terminations is heat-shrink tubing, which is manufactured from high-performancetracking resistant polymeric materials. To establish thenecessary creepage distances, highly-elastic shieldsmanufactured from tracking resistant silicone rubber areinstalled on the tubing after shrinking.

Once again, the use of the patented slip-on auxiliary deviceensures safe, quick and easy assembly.
