Kobe’s BlessingKobe has Autism. A terrific dog has been donated to Kobe to become his full time service dog who will be with Kobe at all times to allow the following:

• Improve Safety•Improve Social Skills and Communication•Companionship•Provide Sensory Input•Interrupt Undesired Behaviors•Search and Rescue

Page 6: Meet Kobe

• 7 ways that an autism service dog will benefit Kobe in school and out of school

Page 7: Meet Kobe

• The dog will assist Kobe to safely access different environment's. This will help Kobe become more independent and also help with transitions, which can be difficult for children with autism.

Page 8: Meet Kobe

• The dog will be a calming influence and give a sense of security to Kobe.

Page 9: Meet Kobe

• The dog will actually help Kobe focus on academic and social tasks. The reason that this happens is not known by many trainers of these service dogs, but it is a good side effect.

Page 10: Meet Kobe

• The dog can be tethered to Kobe to prevent him from wandering away, which a lot of children with autism are prone to do.

Page 11: Meet Kobe

• The dog can actually track and search for Kobe if he does wander away (if Kobe is not tethered). This takes out a lot of fear about him getting lost in school or public places.

Page 12: Meet Kobe

• The dog can try and stop Kobe's repetitive behavior by nudging him. This dog takes specific training for the dog on what Kobe’s behaviors are. But the hope is that Kobe will much rather pet the dog than continue the repetitive behavior.

Page 13: Meet Kobe

• Another positive side affect of having a dog is to help Kobe become more social with his peers. Again the trainers of these dogs do not know why this happens, but the dog does seem to help the children engage more in social activity.

Mission for Kobe

• The dog will attend intense companion service dog training for 60 consecutive days at Companion Training in Boise, Idaho

• The goal is to raise the schooling funds through fundraiser events and donations to allow Kobe’s canine companion to become a full fledged service dog.
