The losses that come with age restrict our agency. The practice of art is one form of resistance to that change because it confers agency. Through creation, we can act in the world. Artists are very good at is living with uncertainty and vulnerability. Exposing themselves. Taking risks. Real risks. Because if you are involved in a creative process you do not know where that play or that song or that painting will actually be any good at the end of it
