Curriculum

Language Arts Science Social Studies Health The above subject areas are integrated. Math - Math Makes Sense * Technology integrated throughout all subjects. Leveled Books Students will be reading and taking books home that are at

their reading level. The level your child reads at will be determined through reading records. This assessment is completed on an ongoing basis. Not all students will be reading the same level book at the same time.

✎ Promote positive educational values  Homework Schedule There will be homework from Monday to Thursday each week. The nightly homework will consist of the following: a) Reading b) Word Ring

✎ Please make sure that your child returns his/her book, wordring and homework bag everyday to school.

✎ Please sign the Homework Log every night and comment.

Food OrdersFor online food orders and payment, please visit our website at https://www.schoolcashonline.com/. Online food orders need to be placed by Thursday at midnight for the following week in order to be accepted. Food orders that are not online need to be in by Friday at 9:00. Exact payment only!! If your child is absent, you will need to call the office by this time. Please note, the menu for Borrowed Kitchen changes monthly.  The options for each month and a gluten free meal are described in the monthly newsletter or can be found on our school website. In the event of a school cancellation /closure, the pre-ordered, prepaid, prepared food will be donated to the Upper Room Hospitality Ministry (The Soup Kitchen). Unfortunately no refunds are available. If Friday is a holiday, food orders will be taken on Thursday.

Lunches Peanut Free School ( No nuts of any kind! )A Treat Day sign up sheet is being passed around. If

you are interested in bringing in something, please sign.

 Microwave – Students can reheat items from home. Please have proper containers. Microwave frozen meals will not be accepted due to time constraints.

ScholasticA book club order form will be sent home each month. This is optional! The first one will be in October.Bus NotesIf your child is going to be traveling on a different bus, a note from home is required. If a note is not present, the child will be sent home on their normal bus run. Kleenex We will have many sniffles throughout the year so if every child could supply the classroom with a box of tissue it would certainly be a great help. Breakfast ProgramThe breakfast program is open each day from 8:15 – 8:25.

Literacy SupportOur Literacy support teacher, Ms. Montgomery, works with students in a small group setting. The goal of literacy support is to support classroom instruction and ensure success in Literacy for all. Literacy support operates on a six week block. Students receive support as determined by informal assessment and teacher collaboration.IllnessIf your child is absent from school, please email me and call the office and report your child’s absence. Call- 569-0550 ext. 300

Punctuality and AttendanceStudents are expected to arrive by 8:20 for an 8:30 start. When students arrive in the morning, they will remain outside in the front playground until the bell goes at 8:15. Students do NOT come into the school prior to this bell unless the weather is inclement.

At our school the grade one classes visit the primary library once a week for a scheduled read aloud and book exchange. We have a collection of four thousand books that support the curriculum and theme units. As well, many popular and perennial favorites are available for pleasure reading.
