5. Chocolate

Chocolate is a common gift; I wouldn’t say it’s very creative. But- it’s a good last mi-

nute gift. Your mother will be grateful for the gesture and you can also accompany it

with. I recommend a simple dairy milk chocolate from any local shop.

£1.90 – Morrison’s

£1.50 – Sainsbury

£2.00 – Tesco

4. Flowers

Flowers are another common gift; once again they are not very creative but will be well re-

ceived. A simple rose or bouquet will do.

£3.00 – Sainsbury’s Mini Rose Plant

£35.00 – Tesco’s Thank You Mum

£5.00 – Morrison’s No1 Mum bouquet

3. Jewellery

Jewellery is yet another common gift given to mothers on Mother’s day. I personally think this is a

good gift, because it shows how much you know your mothers style. You can get jewellery from the

following shops:

H&M

Primark

2. Personalized Gifts

Personalized gifts are a great heart-felt gift, to show how much you really care

about them. There are a lot of websites that do personalized gifts, but I prefer

Moonpig.com

£2.99 – moon pig card (standard size)

£15.00 – moon pig phone case

£14.99 – moon pig t-shirt

1. Handmade Gifts

Handmade gifts are the most important gift to me because the person has taken their time to make a gift which

may have taken a lot of time make. Handmade gifts could be; baking a cake, making a card or a drawing or painting

The Girl in the Field Creative Writing from 7 Pearl’s Hannah

She was wandering; wandering through a

vast field. As she tried to find a way out, the

overgrown grass brushed against her bare

legs and the faint smell of fresh grass wafted

through the air. Out of the corner of her eye

she noticed a slight movement in the green-

ery as a miniscule cricket chirped its cheery

song and flew away. A small smile flashed

across the girl’s face and her sapphire blue

eyes laughed as she carried on walking. Her

small phase of panic, a fear of the fact that

she didn’t know where she was had left

her—instead she was more exploring now:

her eyes wary of all that was around her. The

occasional oak tree that towered over her or

the confident robin that proceeded to circle

around her head then innocently flew away.

Once, she came across a bed of daisies and,

remembering her mother’s hobby, waved

some together to make a necklace and

placed it delicately around her neck. Rays of

sun beamed down on her and brightened up

the sky. Clouds of all shapes and sizes filled

the baby blue above but slowly disappeared

into the distance leaving a simply, clear blue.

As the day progressed, the sky darkened

forming a calm sunset and the girl drew to a

stop at an old oak tree that had obviously

been standing for a long time. At first, she

stood with her back resting against the tree

as she watched the wildlife around her fade

into a deep sleep. Soon it was night and the

sun had retreated into oblivion, leaving the

moon to rule the night bright and proud. The

shy stars had slowly started to appear one by

one, each one adding to the mystery of the

wildlife she had never witnessed before. Final-

ly, she gave in to her legs’ consistent protests

that she should give them a rest and lay down

against the tree.

Half awake, she wracked her memories trying

to find a reason as to why she was there,

stuck in this never ending field. Sadly, she

could not find any memories, any purpose for

her being there, and eventually she closed her

eyes. Surely there was someone looking for

her, noticing her absence and urgently search-

ing for her in the thought that she could be in

danger. The thought sent a shock through her

body and her eyes bolted open. She was sud-

denly aware of a single glowing lantern. It

rose into the night sky and added to the grow-

ing beauty of the void above her. To her it

suggested a way out of the field; a lead to an-

other person; a sign of freedom deep within

the unknown. Gradually she let her guard

down; for now she would sing herself to sleep

under the oak tree and find her way out of the

impossible maze tomorrow.

“Soon it was night and the sun

had retreated into oblivion...”

Within the remote forest sleeps an ancient

house, isolated from the town by a wall of trees

guarding the forest. Some trees are twisted into

horrible shapes, as if screaming for help.

The little clearing the house lies seems to be

rundown, as the glass is overgrown and ivy has

started to consume the house in leaves at first

glance. But when the Sun comes out and the

light beams twirl and dance to the floor the

house you see has a new side. The grey clouds

are no longer there. Light can make a difference

to a building certainly this building, now as

grand as any. Twinkling merrily, the cracked

windows shine and you see the house reflected

in the pond which sits quietly at the front of the

house. Covered in water lilies in the light, the

old pond at first glance looked dirty and empty

but now looks crystal clear with fish breaking the

still water’s surface. The crumbling chimney

now has smoke.

If you walk past this beautiful sight you come to

the heart of the forest where a great tree takes

residence. Over twenty meters high, towering

above the rest this giant sees all. Its aged bark is

still smooth and a home to many things and if

you look up you may see only clouds were this

giant disappears completely.

The brand new "Beauty and the Beast" is a

beautiful musical based on the classic fair-

ytale and original Disney animation. It was

released on March the 17th and stars Emma

Watson as Belle. This captivating movie is

extremely enjoyable and dramatic - perfect

to start off Spring with a bang!

"Beauty and the Beast" (set in the mid-

1700s) has a traditional yet wonderful story-

line where Belle (a beautiful, intelligent girl)

is imprisoned in a castle with a beast who

eventually falls in love with her. However, a

nasty soldier (Gaston) desperately wants to

marry Belle, and will do anything, including

killing the beast, to win her love. This story-

line is exciting, adventurous, and romantic; it

certainly puts a more modern spin on this

classic fairytale.

"Beauty and the Beast" really showcases the

brilliance of Disney's special effects, yet still

manages to capture the heart of a tradition-

al fairytale with the classic songs you will

find yourself singing along with over and

over again! This wonderful movie is packed

with adventure, romance, and a little bit of

humour too, to ensure you have the ulti-

mate fairytale experience, expressed

through beautiful music and exciting drama.

So “be our guest” and enjoy this magical

“tale as old as time.”

Beauty and the Beast

Artwork by Nigarish Mahmood

Once upon a time there was a good old woman who lived in a little house. She had in her

garden a bed of beautiful striped tulips. One night she was wakened by the sounds of

sweet singing and of babies laughing. She looked out at the window. The sounds seemed

to come from the tulip bed, but she could see nothing. The next morning she walked

among her flowers, but there were no signs of any one having been there the night before.

On the following night she was again wakened by sweet singing and babies laughing. She

rose and stole softly through her garden. The moon was shining brightly on the tulip bed,

and the flowers were swaying to and fro. The old woman looked closely and she saw,

standing by each tulip, a little Fairy mother who was crooning and rocking the flower like a

cradle, while in each tulip cup lay a little Fairy baby laughing and playing. The good old

woman stole quietly back to her house, and from that time on she never picked a tulip,

nor did she allow her neighbors to touch the flowers. The tulips grew daily brighter in color

and larger in size, and they gave out a delicious perfume like that of roses. They began to

bloom all the year round. And every night the little Fairy mothers caressed their babies

and rocked them to sleep in the flower cups.

The day came when the good old woman died, and the tulip bed was torn up by folks who

did not know about the Fairies, and parsley was planted there instead of the flowers. But

the parsley withered, and so did all the other plants in the garden and from that time

nothing would grow there. But the good old woman's grave grew beautiful, for the Fairies

sang above it, and kept it green - while on the grave and all around it there sprang up tu-

lips, daffodils, and violets, and other lovely flowers of spring.

Gorillas can catch human colds.

A new born Chinese water deer is so small that it

can almost be held in the palm of your hand.

Ostriches can run faster than horses, and the males can roar like lions.

A lion in the wild usually makes no more than twenty kills a year.

The female lion does ninety per cent of the hunting.

The only dog that doesn’t have a pink tongue is the Chow.

Turtles, water snakes, crocodiles, alligators, dolphins, whales and other

water going creatures will drown if kept underwater for too long.

Almost half the pigs in the world are kept by farmers in China.

On average, dogs have better eyesight than

humans, although not as colourful.

Deer have no gall bladders.

We started with a talk on body image, and

how the media affects our views on this.

We watched various videos, and read arti-

cles about how the media, on the whole,

fakes what we see. We discovered how

clever use of lighting, make up, hair styles,

and even the background can change what

we see. After the film or photos are taken,

the pictures are digitally altered ‘photo

shopped’ to enhance the body shape, hair

and features. The necks are made to look

longer, the body slimmer and the eyes big-

ger, they even make changes to the skin so

it appears smoother and lighter. We were

shocked by how different the models

looked in the photos and adverts compared

to what they looked like in front of the

camera.

After break, we went to a different room,

and we learnt all about CPR

(cardiopulmonary resuscitation). This is an

essential first aid life-saving skill. We used

mannequins, to practise CPR on. We start-

ed by watching a video that taught us how

to do the pushing on the chest. If we were

pushing down hard enough we would hear

a click, it was harder than it looked!

Then, we watched the video and learnt

how to do mouth to mouth, this was op-

tional, but most people decided to do it.

When, the right amount of air was given,

the chest rose, to show we were doing it

correctly, (we did clean the mannequin

many times, before the next person could

do it). We then finished off the session, by

learning how to approach someone who

had just fallen unconscious or was having a

cardiac arrest (a heart attack) and how to

help them quickly and efficiently.

Lastly, after lunch, we went into the hall. In

the hall, we learnt about the dangers of

drugs and alcohol. Did you know the first

drugs, children have is Calpol? All medi-

cines, such as Ibrobrufen, Nurofen and Cal-

pol are drugs, but these are legal drugs and

should only be used in small quantities, or if

prescribed by a doctor. There are also illegal

drugs, such as cocaine, MDMA, and Magic

Mushrooms. These are dangerous and can

kill you. We learnt how a boy, took

MDMA and was taken to hospital shortly

after. He was killed because he took illegal

drugs. Drugs come under many names, so if

you are suspicious about something, don’t

eat or drink it.

In the end, we all had an enjoyable day, and

learnt a lot of new things, and touched up

on things we already knew. We enjoyed the

visitors, and practical work in the CPR ses-

sions. We look forward to our next curricu-

lum day at TGS.

Spring is coming around soon,

Every flower is starting to bloom.

The world is so green and bright,

It sure is a beautiful sight.

The birds are flying back from the south,

Bees are buzzing all about.

I can see tall , towering trees,

Which swayed side to side in the cool breeze,

The sun’s bright rays shine down at me,

And I light up with joyful glee.

The little children come out to play,

Jumping around, shouting ‘Hooray!’ ‘Hooray!’

Spring is such a beautiful time of the year,

Just lie down in the grass and forgets all your

fear.

Spring, Spring the best time of the year,

Spring, Spring its finally here.

Spring, Spring flowers blooming everywhere,

Spring, Spring its finally here!
