Travel to Russia requires an entry visa. The Embassy of the Russian Federation issues different categories of visas to Russia based upon the purpose of a trip and the duration of stay. The most acceptable types of visa are tourist and business. Tourist visas are valid for a stay of up to 21 days, single entry only. Russian business visa can be issued for longer durations and multiple visits.
For any type of visa an applicant should get a letter of invitation. This invitation may be sent to the applicant by any company that has the permanent accreditation within the Consulate department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and Federal Migration Service.
The procedure of the migration registration implies notifying a relevant territorial office of the Federal Migration Service of a foreign citizen’s arrival at the place of sojourn. If a foreign citizen is accommodated in a hotel, it is the hotel’s administration which notifies the arrival.
The standard VAT rate is 18%.VAT refund is not provided by the Tax Code of Russia.

The Russian Ruble is the local currency.Banks and exchange offices are open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Major credit cards are widely
accepted, and ATMs are increasingly common.
Everywhere in Russia 220 Volt and 50 Hz AC current supplies are used. Most of the sockets are standard European-size for double round-pin plugs. Guests from the US, Canada, Great Britain will need adaptors.
It is illegal to smoke in most indoor spaces, including workplaces, function venues, cinemas, pubs, restaurants and hospitality venues, as well as all public transport. Cigarettes cannot be sold to anyone under 18.
Most stores are open Monday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. High street stores (along Nevsky Prospect) may stay open until about 8:00 p.m. Large shopping malls are open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
