Event/Meeting’s Minutes
Mr. Zlatko Filipović, Principal of Institute for Physical Planning of Koprivnica-Križevci County,
held the introductory speech in which he pointed out the active participation of the Institute in one of
the most important national goals, energy efficiency. By participating in Green Partnerships project
concrete good practice examples of EE and RES exploitation were created, that can be applied on every
public building.
Deputy Principal of Home for the elderly and disabled Koprivnica, Mrs. Verica Šarlija, expressed
her satisfaction that one of the Green Partnerships action plans was applied on their building. Main
problem of every public institution are financial expenditures, which will be significantly reduced by
installing solar panels.
Introductory words held, also, Mr. Vladimir Šadek, Head of Section for international
cooperation and European funds in Koprivnica-Križevci County. Public institutions of the County are
participating in 12 EU projects, and the Institute is partner in two of them. One of the future plans of
the County is preparation of technical documentation for energy renewal of school buildings, financed
from EU Funds, for which the Institute already created a good practice example within Green
Partnerships project. To the Institute he wished further success in EU projects implementation.
Assistant Principal of the Institute, Mr. Mladen Matica, briefly described all activities within
Green Partnerships project, accomplished action plans and results. The most important are main
designs for energy renewal and use of RES, RES Strategy of Koprivnica-Križevci County and Final
publication and “Step-by-step” guide, made by all partners. After his speech, he gave the word to
designers of the solar panels system, which will be installed on the Home for the elderly and disabled
building.
Design Engineers, Mr. Miroslav Hodić, Studio HM and Mr. Sanjin Godek, Energetika d.o.o.,
presented “Main design of RES exploitation on the Home for the elderly and disabled building”. The
Studio HM was responsible for static analysis of roof construction, and Mr. Hodić emphasized cost
effectiveness of RES exploitation, especially on public buildings, such as hotels, hospitals and homes for
the elderly.
Mechanical part of the main design explained Mr. Sanjin Godek, who described essential
technical characteristics of the planed system. Foreseen is installation of three solar fields with total
surface of 120 m2 on the south part of the roof. To prevent overheating of the system in the summer, it
was necessary to incorporate two storage tanks with total capacity of 4.000 l, which can adopt surplus
of the energy. In addition, due to the winter need of supplementary heating of the water, plan is to
install one extra gas boiler, in order to compensate lack of solar energy. Important part of the project is
monitoring system that will enable real data about energy consumption and financial savings.
After the presentation of the Main design followed the discussion. Participants were interested
in necessary investment costs and return period. According to the Main design, price investments
amounts approximately HRK 480,000 and the payback period is 12-14 years.
The main conclusions are related to the importance of EE and RES projects investments, which
can provide new workplaces and better living standard. The biggest problems are lack of technical
knowledge, information and money, which are for this example successfully overcome by activities
within GP project. Installation of RES system is still not economical for small buildings, such as family
houses, due to the long payback period of investment. For this reason, it is necessary to encourage
their incorporation, for which are also available EU funds. Crucial is to implement monitoring tools
based on which are obtained data about energy consumption before and after application of this
system.
In the end of the meeting, the Principal of the Institute handed over to the Deputy Principal of
the Home the “Main design of RES exploitation on the Home for the elderly and disabled building”.
