PRELIMINARY STEPS

Operating System MEGA Anywhere and MEGA Advisor can be installed on the following systems:

• Windows Server 2003 • Windows Server 2008

To know the exact versions supported for these systems, please refer to the documents:

• MEGA Advisor Architecture Overview MEGA 2009 SP5 • MEGA Anywhere Architecture Overview MEGA 2009 SP5

In order to install those Web Applications, you must open a Windows session with a domain user that has administrator rights on the server machine.

Windows Server 2003 Verify that the “Application server (IIS)” and “File Server” roles are properly installed. This can be done in the “Configure Your Server Wizard” dialog box in the “Administrative Tools”.

Page 4: MEGA Anywhere/MEGA Advisor 2009 SP5 Installation Guide

page 4/57

Enabling ASP .Net

Open “Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager” from the “Administrative Tools” and browse to the “Web Service Extensions” node.

If “ASP.Net” appears in the extension list and is not allowed, select the service and click on the “Allow” button.

If it is not listed, open the “Command Prompt” and type:

For 64 bits version: cd C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727 aspnet_regiis -i -enable For 32 bits version: cd C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 aspnet_regiis -i -enable

Upon completion, the command should display “Finished installing ASP.NET”. Check that ASP.NET is correctly listed and allowed in the “Internet Information Service (IIS) Manager”.

Windows Server 2008 Verify that the “Web server (IIS)”and “File Services” roles are properly installed. This can be done in the “Server Manager” dialog box of the “Administrative Tools”.

Page 5: MEGA Anywhere/MEGA Advisor 2009 SP5 Installation Guide

MEGA Anywhere/MEGA Advisor 2009 SP5 Installation Guide

page 5/57

In addition, the “Role Services” ASP.Net and its dependencies must be installed for the “Web Server (IIS)” role. This can be checked and added through the “Roles” node.

Windows User for MEGA When installing MEGA Advisor and MEGA Anywhere, a user is required to manage process authentication. It is recommended not to execute the Web Application processes with an administrator user. You will therefore need a second domain user.

This user will be used as an impersonate user in both web applications. All the actions carried out in MEGA Advisor or MEGA Anywhere will be done under the identity of this windows user.

Define Group permissions This user must belong to specific windows groups:

• He must belong to the “Distributed COM Users” group of the server. To add the user to this group, use the “Computer Management” dialog box of the “Administrative Tools”. Browse to the “Groups” node. Right-click “Distributed COM Users” and select “Add to Group…”

Page 7: MEGA Anywhere/MEGA Advisor 2009 SP5 Installation Guide

page 7/57

According to the operating system, this user must belong to specific IIS groups

Windows Server 2003

• The user must also belong to the IIS_WPG group of the server.

Windows Server 2008

• The user must also belong to the IIS_IUSRS group of the server.

Define MUST Licence Access

He must be registered in the MUST license tool, have the rights to read and write data in the MUST license folder and to share data. For more details, see the “Must License Installation Guide MEGA 2009 SP5 EN.pdf” technical article located in the Documentation folder of your MEGA installation.

Define COM Access rights

He must be able to launch COM applications by default. To assign this right, proceed from the “Component Services” dialog box of the “Administrative Tools”. Expand the “Component Services” node, then Computers.

MEGA SETUP

To install MEGA:

1. Launch the Setup program.

2. Select Server Installation.

3. If you want to install MEGA Advisor, click MEGA Advisor (IIS). You have 2 choices:

- Recommended mode: This feature and all sub features will be installed on local hard drive: this means that files are copied on the disk in the IIS folder under “Advisor” folder. The web application is installed under the “Default web site” in IIS with a dedicated “Advisor” application. This enables to have a web application ready to use.

- Export Mode: This feature will be installed on local hard drive: this means that only files are copied on the disk in the IIS folder under “Advisor” folder. No parameterization is made in IIS. The purpose is to let the IT Administrator parameterize the web application on his own as he does for the other web applications. The IT Administrator is in charge of creating the web site and the application in IIS.

Configuration for scalability

When an Advisor or Anywhere installation is destined to be used by more than 10 Advisor profiles or more than 30 Anywhere users simultaneously, specific configurations need to be made.

IIS Application Settings

The Web.Config files of the Advisor and Anywhere installations need to take into account the maximum number of simultaneous users.

This can be done in two ways:

- By editing the Web.Config files directly (installed by default in C:/inetpub/wwwroot/Advisor/ and C:/inetpub/wwwroot/Mega/)

- By using the “Application Settings” configuration tool of the IIS Manager:

o In Windows Server 2003:

Right-click on the Advisor or Mega (for Anywhere) web site

Chose Properties

In the ASP.NET tab, click “Edit Configuration…”

o In Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2:

Left-click on the Advisor or Mega (for Anywhere) web site

Page 32: MEGA Anywhere/MEGA Advisor 2009 SP5 Installation Guide

MEGA Anywhere/MEGA Advisor 2009 SP5 Installation Guide

page 32/57

Double-click on “Application Settings” in the center panel

The two settings of interest for scalability are:

- MaxMegaSessionCount: within the limits of the server’s capabilities, this should be equal to at least:

o the number of simultaneous profiles for Advisor

o the number of simultaneous users for Anywhere

- MultiThreadLimit: within the limits of the server’s capabilities, for Advisor, this should be equal to at least the maximum number of simultaneous users in any Advisor profile.

Desktop heap configuration

When running a significant number of Advisor profiles or Anywhere users simultaneously on the same server, the Windows session of the impersonation user might start running out of desktop heap. This will create execution errors.

This is especially true if the impersonation user has a non-interactive session, as the default desktop heap in this case is very low.

This modification needs to be made in the Windows Registry. Look for the “Windows” value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems. There's a long string for this value that will look similar to this: %SystemRoot%system32csrss.exe ObjectDirectory=Windows SharedSection=1024,3072,512 Windows …

Page 33: MEGA Anywhere/MEGA Advisor 2009 SP5 Installation Guide

MEGA Anywhere/MEGA Advisor 2009 SP5 Installation Guide

page 33/57

It is the SharedSection part that might need to be modified. The three values are, in order: the shared heap, the interactive desktop heap, and the non-interactive desktop heap. They are expressed in KB. Default values vary significantly between Windows versions. You will need to modify the interactive desktop heap or the non-interactive desktop heap depending of the type of session of your impersonation user.

Be careful of not using excessive values, as this could stop you from logging into your server. It is therefore recommended to change this value using small increments.

Experience has shown that, on a Windows 2008 R2 64bit server, in non-interactive mode, a non-interactive desktop heap of 3 MB will allow for approximately 100 simultaneous Anywhere users or 100 simultaneous Advisor profiles.

TESTING THE INSTALLATION

A pre-requisite for the test is to install the example environment (called 'Demonstration').

On the server, run MEGA Administration Console (Administration.exe). Click the menu "Help" > "About MEGA" and check the license used. It has to be the MUST license name generated for this installation.

If the Administration Console does not start or if the license is not the one expected, you need to review the license configuration before going further.

Testing MEGA Anywhere On the server, open Internet Explorer and browse to http://localhost/MEGA/.

The login page should appear.
