Clifton Branch Library Project 2012“A Place that inspires learning and a sense of belonging to the commu-nity.” - The concept of this branch library is the pulling of the urban fabric to create a place that reflects the surrounding community. A sense of transparency is accomplished by the use of glass and voids throughout the facade. A green wall is also incorporated to bring a sense of calmness and peace to the surrounding enviornment since there aren’t many trees near by.

Each floor is connected by a unifying gesture; the changing floor material and the flow of the end of each staircase to the beginning of another.

Loft Space For a Family with

Special Needs

2011

The client: Both the husband and the wife are little people (aver-age height is 4’), and their son is average sized (4’9”).

Wants/Needs: They would like a space that they can move around easily and be able to accomidate for all types of people that visit.

How it was accomplished: personal modifications were made for their height such as: differ-ent counter heights, higher and lower light switches, lever door handles, lower appliances and no second level.

The concept of this chocolate shop is to make the space luxurious and enticing so the customers will be relaxed and want to sit down and take a break from the busy world to buy a piece of chocolate and enjoy every moment of it.

This is accomplished by the rich colors and warm lighting while also drawing in curious bystanders in passing by mimicking the curves of the godiva horse with the curves of the copper ceilinginstallation. The floor plan of the space allows for constant flow, while also allowing space for people to sit and relax or have a conversation.

Bonobos, unlike other brands, uniquely twisted the negative aspects of men’s shopping to formu-late a positive shopping experience.

The storefront design is inspired by the whimsical personality of Bonobos. The crates are recycled, mirroring the manner in which the company utilizes recycled beer bottles to create pants. The hanging lights are made out of measuring tapes, emphasizing the importance of “the fit” of the clothing. Men love simplicity, so the concept of this store would be an organized and inviting invironment, like a walk -in-closet, that would enable men to easily find what they are looking for.

One of the principle objectives of this project is to gain an apprecia-tion for the relationship between design and craft. Another objec-tive is to use wood as a material to gain basic familiarity with the woodshop, tools, and the construction process.

The purpose of the box is to show off the elegance of the tea pot while also storing tea pouches and tea cups inside it. The removable sliding, slatted lid is reminiscent of the slatted tea trays used for re-directing water when making Gong Fu Cha. The lid slides out to reveal a removable tray that can be passed around when drinking tea with others. Underneath the tray houses the tea cups inside the actual box itself.

Summer 2012Building the Hub: The cen-ter of Kadikoy, as the main traffic hub of Istanbul’s Asian side, provides service to thousands of passengers every day while acting as a stage for the urban cul-ture, economy and politics. The old market hall build-ing, Haldun Taner, presents a favorable space right in the middle of the urban transformation. Currently shared by two institutions, the state conservatory for music and performing arts and the municipal theater. The Concept: The concep-tual design of the build-ing became about the traffic patterns and flow throughout the space. Each level in the building became a layered tier that pulled back to create an open, atrium. We kept in mind the buildings historical mean-ing to the community and just enhanced it by using traditional turkish instal-lations and color palattes.
