Bob FosterGeneral Manager

Dear Members, Another year, another holiday season has come and gone. I hope your holiday season was filled with joy and peace. Hard to believe that we are in 2019! Time just seems to go by so quickly.

So much has happened at our Club since our last newsletter came out in November. Numerous member events, parties, golf and tennis matches, swim meets, the list goes on. In late October, the Club held our annual Boo Buffet, in November, we hosted the Club Championship and our annual Thanksgiving Day Buffet, and in December, we had our Brunch with Santa and the MGA Golf Finale. Numerous swim meets were held both here and away, as well as league tennis matches. I hope that you attended one or all of the events that our Club has offered over the past couple of months. As we move into the new year, we have a very comprehensive member event calendar that is planned from now through the end of 2019. Please mark your calendar for those events you would like to attend. To name just a couple in the very near future, our Member Appreciation Party is January 8th and, of course, Valentine’s Day is February 14th.

Though none of them have been formally approved, we have several projects in our plans for 2019. Currently, we are pricing FF&E (furniture, fixtures & equipment), flooring and additional updates to begin a facelift to our Ballroom, Grille, Bar and Emerald Room. We are excited about these projects and look forward to getting them on our schedule and completing the work. We will communicate additional information and progress of our plans through email throughout the process. In addition, the Meadow nine bunkers are to be redone in May, and we plan to purchase new cardio equipment for the Tennis and Aquatics Center in the very near future. There are other projects that will have less impact to you as Members, but are necessary infrastructure and equipment purchases and plans which will allow us to better serve your needs and keep our Club at the forefront of the Tampa Private Club Market.

I would also like to the opportunity to personally thank all the Members who contributed to the 2018 Employee Holiday Fund. Through your generosity, we were able to make our employees holiday season much brighter. In addition, we will be hosting an after the holidays event for our employees which affords the opportunity to not only thank them on your behalf for their hard work and dedication, it also allows for recognizing their efforts for the entire year. Again, my sincerest thanks.

I wish each and every one of you and your families the happiest and most prosperous 2019.

Happy New Year CCC Members! I hope everyone has come into 2019 happy and healthy. We had a fantastic year in 2018 for Membership with a total of 162 New Members. Wow! Thank you to all who gave referrals and are enjoying your lowered dues. Keep them coming!

I’m excited for 2019 and all the fun things we have going on here. Be sure to mark your calendars for our Member Appreciation Party on January 8th, this is always a great time. All of our CCC Family comes out, and we have so many New Members to welcome. It’s a great way to meet the staff, mingle with friends and get to know everyone.

We will continue our monthly Bacchus Wine Dinners starting on January 16th, and for those of you who are unfamiliar, it’s fabulous. A five-course meal, paired with the perfect wines to match, which you may also purchase… Yummmm!

For you football fans, we have Bucs and BBQ every Sunday through January along with some great food specials. We have our Superbowl Party on February 3rd, then sneaking right up behind that is our Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance on the 14th.

Also, keep an eye out for another Family Fun Festival down at the Tennis and Aquatics Center on March 30th, this event was a lot of fun for Members of ALL ages. The video game truck, life-size Jenga, live music, food, drinks, etc. created a great time had by all, so don’t miss it!

There are several things on the horizon and we try to keep you as informed as possible through our Monday emails and our Calendar of Events. But for our New Members out there, if you have any questions you may always call the Clubhouse for further information and updates.

For those of you who are unaware of our MSM Program, when you refer a New Member of your same Membership Type, your dues will be automatically lowered. Now, if you already have lowered dues, that does not mean you will not benefit from your referral. You will receive a credit towards your account that is equal to one month of your referral’s dues. So, continue to spread the word. We truly appreciate your advocacy of CCC.

I have now been with CCC going on my 6th year and I can honestly say I love my job! We have an awesome Club with some great Members and many that I look forward to seeing on a daily basis. I want to wish each and every one of you a sincere heart felt “Happy New Year”! May all of you stay healthy and happy in 2019.

Best Regards,

Renee ConstantineMembership Director

Around the ClubhouseDANNY BLACK, FOOD & BEVERAGE DIRECTOR

FoodBeverage news

&

First and foremost, I would like to sincerely thank all of the Members that helped make 2018 such a phenomenal year! This year we grew and changed many things here at the Club. Some of those changes include a new General Manager, new Golf Director, new Catering director, new roof and new bunkers. To keep up with the changing tides, there are many new additions within Food and Beverage as well. We hired a new, truly talented Executive Chef, Chef Robert Tan, in 2018. Be sure to say “Hello” when you see him around the Club. Also, to really enhance our offerings, we have incorporated Boar’s Head meats and cheeses into our menu, and all of our steaks and prime rib have all been upgraded. We have even upgraded our produce. We started this train rolling with momentum into 2019 and we will keep growing and improving all aspects here in Food and Beverage.

With 2018 behind us, and 2019 to look forward to, there are an abundance of great events taking place. To start the year off, our Member Appreciation Party will be another fantastic event to attend. Our motif will be yet another visually stunning production. Tied in with Chef Robert’s awe-inspiring food, this is one party you will not want to miss.

February is another great month for events. Starting the month off will be our Annual Superbowl Party with a massive, rear-projected HD screen, stadium worthy surround sound, a tailgate menu and never-ending draft beer. There is no other place that does Super Bowl like we do here at your Club. Later in the month is our Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance. We will be elevating all aspects of last year’s event to ensure that it’s the best yet! Better music, better food, and faster service will get you and your loved one fed and on that dance floor as quickly as possible.

With the oncoming Spring, the month of March is full of fun events! The very beginning of March we are trying a new event… March 3rd will be our first annual 2.5K Beer Run and Obstacle Course. This 2.5K run and obstacle course will take you running throughout the golf course, with beverage tents set up along the way. The obstacle course will consist of three, 90’ long inflatable obstacles all ending at the finish line with a water feature obstacle. At the finish line, we will be hosting a delicious BBQ cook-out dinner with refreshments for all ages. This is a really fun event with something for everyone! Then coming back by popular demand, we will be hosting our semi-annual Family Fun Festival at the Pool. With an array of different fun activities, you will not want to miss out on the festivities!

In the restaurant, we have changed the menu again. Introducing Boar’s Head meats and cheeses is such a benchmark event for us here at CCC. Something that we are truly proud of. We have made a few changes in our menu to reflect the pride in that brand. We have also introduced a new steak to the menu. In addition to those changes, we will be updating our Sunday Special, so moving forward, we are running our Burgers and Brews BOGO. That’s right, BOGO Beer and Burgers!! Buy one Beer, get the next one HALF OFF, plus buy one Burger, get the next one HALF OFF. So, bring a buddy and come enjoy some time at your Club with a bud! The rest of the week’s specials will stick

around for a while longer; Two for Tuesday, Wine Down Wednesday, Prime Rib Night, Live Music on Friday, Apps and Taps on Saturday.

Every Month will also be our Bacchus Wine Dinner. We host our Bacchus Dinner on a chosen Wednesday of each month. Chef Robert presents our guests with 5 courses of decadence, paired with 5 varietal wines from around the world. During each course you will be guided on your wine’s history and flavor profile by a Master Sommelier. At the end of the event, we offer the wine sampled throughout the meal to be purchased at a dramatically discounted price.

I look forward to another year of growth and prosperity for the Club, the Members and the staff. Please come see us and really take advantage of all your Club has to offer. If there is anything you would like to see happen in Food and Beverage, I am always here for you and my door is always open. Thank you all and here’s to a great 2019!!

LOOKING FOR NEW EQUIPMENT?If the Holidays did not bring you all the golf apparel and equipment you need, the Carrollwood CC Golf Shop may have it in stock. If we don't, please take advantage of our relationships to special order the product you need. Below are a couple of dates for DEMO DAY opportunities.

• Callaway will be back for a Demo Day to introduce the EPIC Flash and other remarkable equipment. You won’t want to miss out on this event. Join us from 10am-3pm on Thursday, January 31st to try out the latest and greatest!

• Also, be sure to come to the Club on Friday, February 15th between 10am and 3pm for our first Demo Day with HONMA. Find out what Justin Rose and other tour players have been raving about.

TIP FROM THE PRO – BRIAN THORNBURYTight Lies in the Winter months are fairly common. When Bermuda goes dormant, the grass slows in growth and tends to lay down, along with the increase of foot and golf cart traffic, fairway and greenside lies can become tight and difficult to execute good clean contact. Here are a couple of tips to help.

• When making a full swing, be sure to swing through the ball, keeping the clubhead low through impact. Similar to playing a ball out of a divot, players can move the ball slightly back in their stance increasing the angle of attack.

• Around the greens, the correct ball position is always important. On a tight lie, it’s imperative to play the ball back of center and to allow the club to work up off the ground on the take away rather than taking it back low to the ground. Both adjustments will increase your angle of attack and back spin. Also, using a club with less loft will allow it to slide on the turf easier, or using a club with little bounce will help eliminate blading the ball over the green.

IMPORTANT USGA AND CCC GUIDELINES FOR ALL GOLF MEMBERS TO FOLLOW:1. Post scores per the course (slope) played from and designate on the posting

sheet.

2. Post scores using the USGA's Equitable Stroke Control method means if a player falling within a certain handicap range makes a score outside their range, then a manual adjustment must be made prior to posting their score.

HANDICAP RANGE MAXIMUM SCORE0 TO 910 TO 1920 TO 2930 TO 3940 OR MORE

DOUBLE BOGEYSEVENEIGHTNINETEN

3. After every round, post your scores on the posting sheet located in the Golf Shop. Be sure to post scores on the date played (highly recommended) or within 5 days of playing. Players who deliberately wait to post scores after a revision date could be subject to manual adjustments per committee review. (Revisions happen on the 1st and 15th of every month).

4. Never post scores when played as a single.

5. Always post away scores.

Note: Unfinished golf rounds… during 9 holes, players who play at least 7 holes are required to post a 9-hole score; during 18 holes, players who play at least 13 holes are required to post an 18-hole score. Holes unplayed should be scored based on your handicap and here is how:If you are a 9 handicap and the remaining holes have hole handicaps that are above a 9, then the player should record par on the remaining holes. If the player would normally stroke on the remaining holes, then the player would record par plus any handicap strokes that would fall on the card.

And remember, when creating a fair and level playing field, the USGA handicap system only works when you play every shot to the best of your ability, when you post every round in conjunction with ESC and when you adhere to the above rules. For more details or assistance, please contact the Golf Shop.

From the Golf Course Superintendent

The maintenance staff and I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. We hope you had a great Holiday season and enjoyed many of the Club’s activities.

As we move forward into the coldest months of the year, I would like to remind everyone about the potential for frost delays. There may be days when we must delay starting times to wait for the temperatures to warm up enough to be able to run water and help remove the frost. We will allow play to begin as soon as possible.

Here at Carrollwood Country Club we do not overseed the golf courses, rather we use a green pigment on the Fairways and Tees in the Winter months. Using a pigment rather than overseeding we are allowing our Bermuda to thrive, rather than compete with the overseed for nutrients. We also avoid the headaches of transitioning from cool season turf to our base Bermuda; a process that can take months because of thin or bare areas on tees and fairways.

I would also like to remind everyone of the importance of fixing your ball marks on the greens. An unrepaired ball mark leaves an unsightly brown dot on the green, disrupts the putting surface and can take up to 10 days to heal; whereas, a repaired ball mark goes unnoticed if done correctly.

If you should have any questions or concerns regarding the golf course my office door is always open and I would be more than happy to explain any situation to you.

Best Regards

Tennis & news

BY JIM KELLY, TAC DIRECTOR

AquaticsFrom The Tennis & Aquatic CenterWell, I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season with family and friends! I know we here at the TAC definitely did! So now, with all that celebrating and fantastic food behind us, it’s time to get focused on losing a few of those holiday pounds, and getting started on some of those New Year’s resolutions. And, if you’re not the resolution type, it’s just a great time of the year to get in some recreation time here at the TAC. Any way you want to look at it, we here at the TAC are ready to help no matter what your goals are. We have a lot to offer here, with great trainers and coaches to help you reach your goals. Besides getting a full workout in our Fitness Center, hitting the courts or swimming a few laps, we have an assortment of fitness classes available, most of which are complimentary to our CCC Members. Just give Janice, or one of the other ladies, at our reception desk a call and they would be happy to get you started. As always, we have tennis and swim instruction available all year long. You can call Chris Cary, our Director of Tennis, for more information on all of our Tennis Programs or Meredith Seibold, our Swim Lesson Director, for more on our SwimAmerica Lesson Program or CVST, our Swim Team for kids or adults. There is always something going on for just about everyone at the TAC, so why not come on out and give us a try or come on back out and get rescheduled. The pool will be closing at 2:00pm that Friday and is not scheduled to reopen until Sunday at 4:00pm. There is a chance that we will reopen earlier on Sunday depending on the number of swims that day, so you are encouraged to call the TAC and check on the meet’s progress that day.Registration for this Summer’s CCC Resort Sports Camp and Summer Swim Lesson Program is coming up once again and will begin on Friday, March 1st and run until all camps are full. A basic day at the Camp includes two hours at Golf, an hour for lunch, then two hours for Tennis and two hours at the Pool. We also have some special visitors for some of the camps, including Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and the Sheriff’s Department. This is a great camp, so don’t miss out and

Carrollwood Country Club is fortunate to have so many willing and skilled female tennis players to field our day leagues every season. However, we are always looking for subs and new members to join in the fun! Our Tuesday day league is Suncoast with 14 lines of doubles, and we have two day leagues on Wednesdays: Interbay League with 7 lines of doubles, and A LOT with 5 lines. Our USTA team(s) can vary depending on the level and season. Please contact our Tennis Director, Chris Cary, if you are interested in any of the ladies’ competitive tennis leagues.

Our Annual Holiday Party which is held at a member’s home is always a special way to celebrate our Fall tennis season and our friendships! There is so much ladies’ tennis on the “menu”, please consider playing or subbing with our teams!

A special thanks to the TAC for your generosity with toys that we donated to Metropolitan Ministries in December! We collected over 60 games and toys for children to make their Holiday special!

See you on the courts in 2019!

H O U R S O F O P E R AT I O N

A Warm Greeting to All from the Resort!

We had a very successful holiday season here at the resort. Over the month of December, the property had the pleasure of hosting holiday parties for the Members and their work associates. Other Members took advantage of the CCC Member rate and made reservations for their families who flew in from out of state to celebrate the holidays. A big Thank You, to all the Members who stayed with us, or had family stay with us, this past season. The resort and our staff take great pride in providing lodging accommodations for your family, friends and associates. Hope we continue to see your support!

Looking forward, Spring Break is just around the corner. That means the golfers from the Northeast, Midwest and Canada will be returning soon. Our golf groups return year after year to enjoy the beautiful property of Carrollwood Country Club and play its 3 famous golf courses. I would like to extend my gratitude, to all the CCC Members who make our golfers feel so welcome.

Planning an event at the Club this upcoming season? Family or friends begging to come visit you this Spring Break? Our sales managers, Vince and JR, would be happy to assist with your reservation needs. Vince can be reached at [email protected] or 813-961-9400. JR can be reached at [email protected] or 813-961-9400 ext.401. Prefer reserving your room online? The CCC Member rates are also available on our website, www.emeraldgreensresort.com. As you can see, we have a lot going on here and we would love for you and your family to be a part of it. Hope you join us for 2019!

See you around the Club.
