Original Spread sheet

I have downloaded the data from the DiDA website, and will now change it in order to meet the specification and find suitable membership fees for the customers.

Cell formatting involves changing the format of cells (eg. From number to currency.) This will make my spread sheet easy to use, as it will be easy to differentiate between the different types of data. It also means I can control the numbers of decimal points, controlling how accurate my data is.

3D Referencing

3D referencing allows me to insert/copy cells from one spread sheet to another quickly and simply. This is useful as it saves time, and means if I change the data on the original spread sheet, all the other data will change too, keeping my spread sheet up to date easily.

Formulae

Using formulas in Excel is very useful. It saves time and effort, and means that all the cells are connected, so if one value changes so does the other. This allows me to easily keep my database up to date.

Absolute Cell Referencing

Absolute cell referencing is very useful when you want a cell reference to stay fixed on a specific cell, meaning when a formula is copied and pasted to other cells, the cell references do not change.

Goal SeekGoal seek is used to get a certain result when you are unsure of the starting value. For example using it to get my total outgoings to £0.00. However this gave unusual membership values, so I will not be using it in my spread sheet.

IF StatementsThis can be used if you want to see whether something is ‘true’ or ‘false’. For example, in my spread sheet I used an IF statement to tell me if the values meant there was a surplus or deficit, by seeing if one value was bigger than the other.

Conditional Formatting Conditional Formatting allows you to change the appearance of a cell, depending on certain conditions. For example, in my spread sheet I made a rule which changed the colour of the cell depending on whether it was a ‘surplus’ (green) or ‘deficit’ (red.)

Proposal 0

This is my original proposal, which I was given on the DiDA website. I will now try to get the net cash flow value to as close as 0 as possible, so the organisation isn’t loosing money, but the membership values are still low enough to receive a large amount of donations.

Proposal 1

I changed the membership fees so it totalled £394,750, however this was not successful, as it still left me with a surplus of £64,854

Proposal 2

I changed the membership fees so it totalled £414,250 however this was not successful, as it still left me with a deficit of £354

Proposal 3

I changed the membership fees so it totalled £415,150. This was successful as it still left me with a surplus of £546.This is unsuccessful as it is over £100.

Proposal 4

Although my previous proposal was successful, I decided to try and get the value lower, in an attempt to lower the membership fees, so the organisation would receive more donations. To do this I changed the membership fees so it totalled £414,625. This was successful as it still left me with a surplus of only £ 21.00

Are my fees reliable?

Using my membership research I was able to see that my fees were realistic. I would not be charging too much, but my fees are high enough to not leave myself with a deficit.

I will test my formulae by reducing all outgoings on the Cost & membership sheets to zero. If they have worked, all the values in my cash flow forecast should be zero.

Test 1This is what happened:

Test 2For my second test, I then put in 5 silver memberships, which should give me a £100 income. I will then put £10 in my ‘other’ outgoings category for January, which should leave a net cash flow of £90.This is what happened:
