• Grizzlies Assistant Coach LIONEL HOLLINS was also an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns from 1988-95. Hollins also played college ball for Arizona State University (1973-75), and later returned as an assistant coach for the Sun Devils (1985-86, 1987-88).

• In his junior and senior seasons with ASU (1973-75), HOLLINS was named a Sporting News First-Team All-American in 1975, while leading his team to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Title and advancing to the NCAA West Regional Finals.

• DAMON STOUDAMIRE played his college ball for the University of Arizona and was a consensus All-American and finalist for College Player of the Year during his senior season. • Grizzlies radio analyst ELLIOT PERRY played for the Suns from 1993-96 and during the 2000-01 seasons. In 1994-95, he was also the runner-up for the NBA’s Most Improved Player award.

• MARCUS BANKS was selected by the Grizzlies in the first round (13th overall) of the 2003 NBA Draft, but was traded to Boston along with the draft rights to Kendrick Perkins for DAHNTAY JONES and Troy Bell.

• PAU GASOL (Spain) and Suns LEANDRO BARBOSA (Brazil) and BORIS DIAW (France) competed with their respective countries in this past summer’s FIBA World Championships in Japan.

GRIZZLIES HEAD COACH, TONY BARONE Tony Barone Sr. took over as the Grizzlies’ interim head coach on December 28, 2006, his first head coaching stint in the NBA. He’s also in his seventh season with the Grizzlies as the team’s Director of Player Personnel. Among his many accolades, Barone can be credited with scouting the talents of Spain’s Pau Gasol, the 2001-02 NBA Rookie of the Year. He also spent two seasons as an assistant coach under former head coach Hubie Brown. Barone joined the Grizzlies after two years as a Big 12 color commentator with ESPN Regional. He served as the head coach at Texas A&M from 1991 through 1998, with his 1994 team playing in the NIT Tournament. While at Texas A&M, Barone was selected Southwestern Conference Coach of the Year. Prior to working at Texas A&M, he was the head coach at Creighton from 1985-1991. While there, he was selected twice as Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year. Barone began his coaching career in the Illinois High School ranks after playing at Duke. A native of Chicago, Illinois, he has over 36 years of playing and coaching experience including assistant coaching positions with Duke (1972-1974) and Bradley (1978-1985). Barone was an academic All-American, earned three letters, was elected team captain as a senior and earned a degree in English while at Duke.
