1 Mission Statement Mission statement of NAMI Ozaukee NAMI Ozaukee is a Family -Based County Organiza- tion whose purposes are to provide community aware- ness and understanding of the issues affecting per- sons with mental illnesses and their families, to im- prove the quality of life for those suffering and to pro- vide support for their loved ones. NAMI Ozaukee Newsletter Ozaukee COunty’s VOiCe On Mental illness Volume 1, Issue 30 Published Quarterly December 2015 Recovery International Discovery NAMI Naonal Organizaon Is being facilitated weekly at Advent Lutheran Church in Ce- darburg (New Location) by Kathy K. The program is peer to peer focused and was developed by Dr. Abraham Low in 1937. The weekly peer meetings are a safe, confidential place to talk about life’s challenges and receive support for self help efforts. Please contact Kathy through the NAMI Ozaukee office if you are interested or come to on Wednes- days at 3 PM. NAMI Ozaukee is providing the manuals that Kathy uses in this program. Kathy trained through the NAMI Washington County program and Peter Miller from Washing- ton County is the group’s counseling advisor. MIAW-Mental Illness Awareness Week-October 2015 Family-to-Family Update During MIAW members of NAMI Ozaukee, counselors, and consumers parcipated in the NAMI Wisconsin community quilng square project. NAMI Ozaukee completed 64 quilng squares that will become part of a larger quilt to be showcased at the 2016 NAMI Wisconsin Conference in Elkhart Lake on April 29-30, 2016. The project showcased the connecons and support we provide to each other within NAMI Wisconsin by parcipang in this collaborave art piece. Watch for the finished quilt in the IRIS publicaon in April 2016. Thank you to everyone who parcipated. One of the very special quilng squares was submied by B: The Fall 2015 Family to Family Class held their graduaon on Monday No- vember 30, 2015 with 15 family members compleng the program. NAMI Ozaukee is a Family-Based County Organiza-

tion whose purposes are to provide community aware-ness and understanding of

the issues affecting per-sons with mental illnesses and their families, to im-

Family-to-Family Update

During MIAW members of NAMI Ozaukee, counselors, and consumers participated in the NAMI

Wisconsin community quilting square project. NAMI Ozaukee completed 64 quilting squares that

will become part of a larger quilt to be showcased at the 2016 NAMI Wisconsin Conference in

Elkhart Lake on April 29-30, 2016. The project showcased the connections and support we provide

to each other within NAMI Wisconsin by participating in this collaborative art piece. Watch for the

finished quilt in the IRIS publication in April 2016. Thank you to everyone who

NAMI Ozaukee had a team of walkers/runners at the an-nual 5K Family Fun/Run Walk on Saturday September 26, 2015 at the Cedars III in Cedarburg, and WI. Mel’s Pig Roast

Ozaukee CIT, a collaboration between NAMI Ozaukee, the Ozaukee Sher-

iff’s Department and Ozaukee County Social Services finished out 2015

with two more 40 hour training sessions, making a total of three sessions.

CIT #2 Team training was held at the Grafton Police Department and Con-

cordia University on September 21-25, 2015. 21 officers from 11 depart-

ments completed the training .

CIT#3 Team training was held at the Saukville Police Department and Con-

cordia University on October 12-16, 2015. 35 officers from 18 depart-

ments completed the training. Thank you to our hosts - Grafton Police

Department and Saukville Police Department, and the theater students as

well as faculty and the Safety Department at Concordia University in Me-

quon. Starting in February (15-19) 2016 Ozaukee CIT will resume with CIT

#4 Training this time at the Cedarburg Police Department.
