Congratulations! You and your team have achieved some significant efficiency in automating HR process activity through the use of HR automation tools.
• Likely your employees and their managers experience a comfortable level of self-service through the use of a capable HRIS, performance management, ATS or Payroll tool sets.
• You have a good payroll and benefits management capability – possibly linked directly to your finance department’s financial management system, and you are able to run reasonably useful reporting off the back of your systems today.
• Your employees are satisfied with self-service capabilities as you are using digital tools to on-board, survey, brand & attract candidates, employ social media to provide communication and collaboration platforms and drive personalised learning.
Your core digital capabilities could be described as first level, stage 3.
It is likely you are providing many additional layers of insight to analyse correlations across several disparate elements of human behaviour linked to business activities, through which you have gained the respect and support of your board level executives
You are using data analysis to articulate program assessment and create actionable business plans to improve sales and profit, reduce costs and risks and improve your company’s ability to hire, engage and retain top talent.

You are on to a firm footing regarding your digital transformation journey.
The question is, “How do we assess what we have today against the new tools and capabilities that are coming onto the market and ensure we keep an edge through thoroughness, streamlining and data insight?”
Primarily you should look into the following areas, which leaders like your organisation and your top competitors are constantly monitoring and improving:
• digital employer branding and passive candidate engagement• recruitment process management, digital on-boarding and new hire preparation• personalised learning & development planning and just-in-time learning• cultural norm and sentiment insight• seamlessly connected, mobile-first digital enablement strategy
It might be a great idea to take a thorough inventory of your digital assets, and overlay those against your employee experience map to see where there might yet be areas for improvement.
Your progress creates the groundwork for looking at further digital enhancements that can really take your HR function up to the next level of operational acumen!

A recent report by Gallup has found that a staggering 87% of employees worldwide are not engaged, but companies with highly engaged workforces outperform their peers by 147% in earnings per share.
These are areas where your CFO and CEO would like to hear from you, and you can build a compelling business case to improve your organisations ability to attract and hire the best talent, get them on-board and productive faster, and ensure they are well equipped with the right learning, just when they need it.
A joined up, seamlessly orchestrated digital experience is a huge benefit to employees.
It will make it harder for them to consider leaving, even for a better offer, knowing full well that working somewhere else might be harder, more challenging and not meet the ‘pain for pay’ balance very well.
A well aligned and empowering digital experience creates a psychological stickiness and loyalty that is very difficult to detach from.

Furthermore, your external customer experience can only be as strong as your internal service cooperation.
The report by Temkin Group showed that companies with stronger financial performances and better customer experience have employees who are considerably more engaged than their peers as clearly demonstrated through some of the report findings below:
• Customer experience leaders have 1.5 times as many engaged employees as do customer experience laggards.
• Compared with disengaged employees, highly engaged employees are more than four times as likely to recommend the company’s products and services and do something good for the company that is not expected of them, 2.5 times as likely to stay at work late if something needs to be done after the normal workday ends, and seven times as likely to recommend that a friend or relative apply for a job at their company.

Digital enablement is also changing our relationship with our customers – allowing us to engage more directly and quickly to determine their sentiments concerning our products, services and interactions.
Middle management is increasingly being made redundant to requirements as advanced technologies are stream- lining internal and external processes, and your employees are demanding more and more enablement to get their jobs done and to stay competitive.
So, what next?
Sounds like a wonderful place to be able to claim you’ve arrived, doesn’t it? But then reality sets in, and immediately you are thinking – “Nice to dream about a digitally advanced work place – but I’ll never get budget, I wouldn’t know what vendors to engage with or trust, and let’s face it – I’m not an IT or digital implementation expert who can manage all of this.”
Those were very valid excuses and considerations possibly 5-10 years ago but now the pressure is on to respond to disruption and use tools to move at pace. We no longer have the luxury to sit on our past successes, and digital enablement is not a ‘nice to have’.
