Distribution System Reliability, Adequacy and Efficiency Management IEEE 100 defines reliability as the probability that a device will function without failure over a specified time period or amount of usage. In the case of electric power distribution, reliability concerns have come from customers who want uninterrupted and continuous power supplied to their facilities at minimum cost. A typical goal for an electric utility therefore is to have the most reasonable and acceptable power service performance in its entire franchise area. This course discusses the methods of performing reliability analysis for power distribution systems. It also discusses the different approaches in gathering data, the use of different power distribution indices, interpretation and analysis of the indices to come up with sound reliability-based planning and decisions, and ensure an adequate and efficient power network.
