April 2019 Talk with the Thomas’ We look forward to celebrating the Spring Festival with our school families on April 25th from 5:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. The event will be open to our teachers from 6:00 p.m. onwards, once they start closing their classrooms. Please RSVP to the upcoming sign-up genius with additional details of the event. We are very excited to announce plans for our Vegetable Garden and Natural Playground to enhance our program offering this year. Landscape design plans are in the final stages and contractors have initiated the work. We will keep you posted on the progress towards a summer implementation. Calling all green thumbs and volunteers in the hopes that this garden doesn't just feed our bodies, but feeds our soul and brings us together as a stronger community. We have recently completed visits from N.C. State Licensing and Lighthouse Consultants from Texas. As an outcome, an additional p.m. snack has been added to our menu from previously serving one food group to two, adding more variety for our children to enjoy. Recent photos of our Staff Professional Development Day and Fitness program launch with Ms. Brianna are attached. We would like to make school-age camp a continued year- round offering for our young Pre-K graduates with the help of your positive word of mouth. Our xSTREAM curriculum starting in June combines 'Scouts Skills' with 'S.T.E.M. Skills' to accommodate weekly team, solo, outdoor and community challenges along with two weekly field trips for an action- packed, fun-filled summer. Parents Call to Action to help promote our program and spread the word in your neighborhood forums and elementary school networks! April 2019Helpful Reminders

Hand Washing: All parents are requested to wash their child’s hands upon arrival to allow the highest level of sanitation and safety of all children, especially those with allergies.

Parent Observations: CLLC maintains an open-door policy at all times. We welcome parent visits and invite you to observe your child through the classroom hallway windows at any time; however, we do ask that you spend no more than five minutes in the classroom during “drop off” and “pick up” times to minimize disruption for the other children.

Clothes: Child items including blankets must fit in the child’s cubby and cleared at the end of week for school cleaning. All items brought to school will be checked daily to ensure children have no access to lotions, chap sticks, medication etc. that is not authorized by childcare licensing. Coat hooks are strictly for coats and returning used clothes ONLY and not to hang additional items/ toys from home. Space above cubbies is unavailable for child items and required for storing books and classroom materials. It is requested that all child items be returned home over the weekend to clean school totes and premises.

Supervision Ratios: We are committed to operating at the 'highest voluntary' ratios per N.C. State requirements. This implies that we hire the most number of teachers to care for the least number of children per Licensing. Please note that we continue to be in compliance with our five-star license when operating at the 'voluntary ratio' requirements with 1 additional child per teacher. This helps accommodate unplanned teacher call outs, delays during staggered shifts etc. that are part of the school schedule contingency planning.

Character Value of the Month

RESPONSIBILITY Even kids as young as age two can begin the process of learning tocare for their own bodies and being responsible. By the time kidsare preschoolers, they are capable of responsibilities for self-careand some household tasks when given age-appropriateopportunities to practice. Young kids LOVE being helpers andlearning to do things on their own - ALL BY MYSELF becomesthe main mantra! Using practical life skills to encourage ayoung child’s desire for independence will promote healthydevelopment (order, concentration, self-control, coordination, independence) and foster a sense of responsibility at home, inchildcare, or in the classroom!

Dear Parents,

Music time is an adventure as we explore the world through a musical looking glass and reinforce the skills needed to grow and acquire knowledge. Early Childhood is a time for rapid growth and my aim is to awaken and develop your child’s talent and joy for music.

Our musical journey consists of many elements such as singing, clapping, chanting, stomping, moving, and guided listening. Focus will be on springtime and all the beauty and colors that surround us and the newness of the world in bloom.

Music continually focuses on surrounding elements and reinforces colors of the rainbow, counting songs, days of the week, body awareness and exploring the many beautiful things and cultures in the world. Music is the Sound of Life!

Sincerely,Patty Feinstein
