Stewardship . . . moving us closer to GodOur readings this week have two great themes; repenting and witnessing. The first reading from Ch. 3 of the Acts of the Apostles is a sermon given by St. Peter sometime after Pentecost. Peter is certainly a changed man after the arrival of the Holy Spirit. In an earlier verse, Peter cures someone who was lame but he makes it clear that this healing was not of his own power. Throughout his ministry and evangelization

St. Peter concentrates on Jesus the Savior, not on himself or anyone else. It is his way of witnessing to the importance of Jesus’ sacrifice and gift to us. Peter expects us to do two things: repent and convert. Both of these are calls to change, and to

change significantly. The conversion of mind and heart is the first step towards a stewardship way of life. Our second reading is from St. John and like St. Peter he witnesses to Jesus. We are told that in spite of our best efforts and intentions we are sinners. He reminds us of the power and saving grace of Jesus Christ and that through Him we will be forgiven. John calls on us to “keep His (Jesus’) Word.” This is the same as Peter's call to repent and convert. This reading ends about half way through verse 5 with the remainder of the verse and the next being, "This is the way we may know that we are in union with Him: whoever claims to abide in Him ought to live as He lived."The Gospel reading from St. Luke tells us of the events just after Jesus met two of His followers on the Road to Emmaus. Jesus was with the two of them on the road to Emmaus; in this reading He was with them and the disciples in Jerusalem; and He is still with us. Jesus told them “You are witnesses of these things”, just as we should be witnesses today. St. Peter, St. John and the others witnessed to the glory and joy of Jesus. We are called to do the same. One of the best ways to witness to Jesus is to live a life of stewardship. This is the way Christ lived. Please contact us, [email protected] with questions or comments on this article or about Stewardship.

stephen ministry Why are you troubled? In today’s gospel, Jesus asks the disciples, “Why are you troubled?” If someone asked you that question, would you be able to put your troubles into words? When we’re troubled, we need someone to help us name the problem so we can begin working through it. That process enables us to experience Jesus’ healing touch. A Stephen Minister can be your confidential partner on that journey of discovery and healing. If you are troubled, leave a message on our Stephen Ministry confidential phone line at 310-545-8244. Deacon Dick and Patti Williams will meet with you to explore whether a Stephen Minister may be a good fit for you.

ALZHEIMER'S CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP - Sunday, April 26, 1:30pmCaregivers of persons with Alzheimer's Disease and related memory disorders are welcome to a Caregiver Support Group that meets in the Parish House, 1:30-3:00pM, on the last Sunday of each month. The group is for people to bring questions, share their feelings, learn from others who have gone through the experience, exchange information, and problem solve together. There is no charge to participate. For information, contact Deacon Dick Williams at 310-545-8244.

The Lord is risen! As Christ's disciples, we are called to go forth and spread the good news of His Resurrection.

Our parish's many ministries are examples of how many of you answer that call. Our ministries require not only gifts of time and talent, but also of financial help.

Please consider using our secure electronic giving program, Faith Direct, and they will automatically process any offertory or second collection donations of your choosing. Enrollment is simple: use our Church code, CA308, at w w w.Fa i t h D i r e c t . n e t .

As always, know that your generosity is truly a gift from God, both with your treasure and with your time and talents.

EndofLifein2015California–WhatYouNeedtoKnowTONIGHT,Sunday,April19,6:30–8:00PMinSt.KateriRoom

American Martyrs, with the support of the L.A. Archdiocese, is taking the lead on this important issue by hosting an educational event, presented by the Scholl Institute of Bioethics, in the St. Kateri Room TONIGHT,April19 from 6:30- 8:00pM. Topicsinclude:•Physician-Assisted Suicide Bill, SB 128•Euthanasia•The withholding or withdrawing of food and water from non-

dying patients•The Affordable Care Act and End of Life•Advanced Health Care Directives•And more….

All American Martyrs parishioners are strongly encouraged to attend this important meeting. The topics that will be covered impact people of all ages and their families. Refreshments will be provided. All are welcome.CA Senate Bill 128, the bill that would legalize physician-assisted suicide in California, has passed out of the Senate Health Committee and is headed to the Senate Judiciary Committee. This legislation, if enacted:…makes critically ill patients more vulnerable than they already are.…divides family members when they most need one another. …threatens people with disabilities by exposing them to deadly manipulation.

…gives life-or-death power to those who will benefit from a patient’s death.

…breaks down basic bonds of trust - and turns healers into killers. …does not provide “death with dignity.” It denies basic human dignity to patients - and to those who care for them.

~ Californians Against Assisted Suicide (including the Archdiocese of Los Angeles)

WANT TO GROW IN HOLINESS, BUT TOO BUSY?Sisterhood, Monday Faith Sharing and Prayer Groups invite you to 33 Days of Morning Glory

Want to transform your work, your marriage, your family, and your life, but don’t have time? Looking for the quickest, surest, and easiest way to holiness, but don’t know where to begin? In our hectic day and time, Pope John Paul II and Blessed Mother Teresa knew that the quickest way to be transformed into a saint is through a relationship with Our Blessed Mother, Mary.Join us on Monday, April 20 as we begin a 33 day preparation for Marian Consecration. For six weeks, we’ll individually read about and reflect on four great Marian giants: St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa, and Pope John Paul II. They will teach us the secrets to drawing closer to the Heart of Jesus through the Heart of Mary. In our weekly meetings we’ll share our insights within our small group and watch a 30-minute video by popular author and speaker, Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC that will bring our individual reflections and group experience into a clear and livable focus. If you’re looking for a simple way to be spiritually renewed, develop a deeper relationship with Our Merciful Savior, and grow in holiness, join us for this Small-group Retreat. There will be a morning and a repeat evening session on six consecutive Mondays. Morning sessions will be 9:30-11:00am in the Spirituality Center. Evening sessions will be 7:00-8:30pm in various locations, with the first in St. Kateri. Please contact Sharon Law at S h a r o n 5 8 2 @ v e r i z o n . n e t or 310-963-9484 to reserve your books.

contemplAtive prAyer "O Lord, you have passed over into new life, and you now invite

us to pass over also. We pray that our faces will never look back; instead let us, by God's grace,

make heaven on earth here in our hearts." St. Francis de Sales, Prayer for EasterTuesday evenings, 7:30 - 8:30pM St. Joseph’s Chapel in the Spirituality Center (please use Pacific entrance)

The effect of God’s grace is to bring us back to our original and intended course, with a yearning for increased holiness and infinite goodness. It is our experience of God’s grace that can then be reflected back to all of life. Please join us in prayer for this Easter season. We meet every Tuesday evening at 7:30pM for one hour. Come once, often or always, for the Love of it! For information, call Donna Ennis, 310-941-1349.

HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CEMETERYAs Catholics, our source of hope is our belief in the Resurrection and the eternal life with God. Burial in a Catholic Cemetery assures the respect of our Catholic beliefs and practices and that of the sacredness of the human body. The staff at Holy Cross would like to offer assistance to all parishioners in making arrangements when a death has occurred. We also offer a program for planning ahead for the burial of a loved one before the death has occurred. We offer traditional ground burial and cremation burial sites. You are invited to come to the Cemetery at 5835 Slauson Ave, Culver City and a member of our trained staff will assist in addressing your questions and concerns and show you what plans are available to suit your needs. Planning ahead is a very important part of our lives. One of the inevitable events in each person's life is our death. The financial cost incurred at the time of death can be a source of stress and added suffering at a difficult time for family and loved ones. Call 310-836-5500 for an appointment or questions.
