Newsletter #8 2 June 2016 FROM THE PRINCIPALS Winter has arrived, but that isn’t slowing anyone down at our Mosman Park schools. Last week our interschool teams took to the fields and had great success in all of their games against Jolimont Primary School. This morning, Mrs Wensinger’s class entertained us with a fantastic assembly. Their assembly was held on a Thursday as tomorrow is a pupil free day. While your children can enjoy an extended long weekend, all staff will be attending network professional development with other schools from across the Shenton network. Today, students from the Deaf School attended a Cultural Day at Central TAFE. It was a very interesting day where many cultures were represented through art, activities and food, with the culmination being watching the Certificate 4 Auslan students perform songs in Auslan. It was quite a special experience for our students to be immersed in an environment where sign language communication was in the majority, not the minority. Staff across both schools have joined the Global Corporate Challenge. This is a 100 day challenge which encourages everyone to become more active and by combining our steps we are doing a virtual walk around the world. So far we have started at the Colosseum and made our way through a number of beautiful places across Italy. It’s a team effort, where every step counts, so don’t be surprised to see groups off walking during lunchtimes. We hope you have a wonderful four day weekend and enjoy the extended time with your families. We look forward to seeing students back at school on Tuesday 7 th of June. PUBLIC HOLIDAY MONDAY 6 JUNE 2016 The school will be closed on Monday 6 June 2016 for all staff and students as we celebrate WA Day. Students resume on Tuesday 7

th June.

WHERE’S THE FIRE? If you saw the fire trucks at the school on the Tuesday of Week 5, you would be forgiven for thinking the school had had an emergency. All Year 3 students at the school were treated to a visit by the Claremont Fire Brigade. Students heard the firemen explain the importance of fire awareness and safety. They then had an opportunity to climb aboard the fire engine for a quick view and learned first hand how to operate a hose. The jaws of life also had great appeal. Thank you to the Claremont Fire Brigade for giving their time and expertise to enlighten our students. Other classes were green with envy and planning how they could get their chance with the big red engine!

Come along to hear what we are up to, including an update from the nature play project committee and the Artist in Residence project scheduled for later this year.
