We are certainly proud of the legacy that this great school has left and the impact its staff and students have had on this community. The weekend long celebration stirred many memories of times spent in the classroom, on the stage, in athletic competi- tion, on out of school learning adventures, and of forging life-time friendships. It was absolutely amazing to network with staff and student alumni and hear the many stories about how Centennial factored in the lives of many. More importantly, it is extremely rewarding to know that the same Charger passion and spirit still lives fifty years later. It is hard to believe that it is June, that we have successfully navigated through another semes- ter, and that we are heading out for summer holidays. Our students have been busy, and continue to contribute in vast ways to school life. It was truly an honour to host OFSAA gym- nastics and welcome gymnasts from all over the province. We are thankful to Ms. Clare for her leadership and to the Bay of Quinte Gym- nastics club for their wonderful partnership. While we technically did not host OFSAA Track and Field, we were in essence the home site for the event. Mr. Foran’s leadership, and the support of many staff and students made this event a huge success as well. The spring athletic season was a busy one, and we proudly competed in girls’ soccer, ten- nis, track and field and notably had a dual Bay of Quinte win in both junior and senior boys’ rugby. Our juniors went on to compete in the Barbarian Cup and represented Centennial very well. We are so proud of our athletes and so incredibly thankful for our coaching staff. It is a monumental time commitment, but our coaches love our students and love the sport. This time of year often marks moments when we have to say goodbye. While we are very happy for Ms. Fanjoy and Mr. Perkins, we will miss them immensely as they head off into the well deserved world of retirement. Both of these exemplary teachers have made a huge impact in the classroom, and have volunteered an immense amount of time supporting stu- dents in life outside of the classroom. We wish them all the best. We must also say goodbye to our phenomenal Office Supervisor, Ellen Power, as she sets out to pursue a different challenge at the Education Centre. If you ask any member of the Centen- nial Secondary School community, they will tell you that Ellen is truly the heart of our school. We will all miss her support, her sense of hu- mour, and her amazing ability to keep us all organized. Megan Adam is also heading over to the Education Centre to support students on a grander scale in the role of curriculum coordi- nator in the School Climate and Student Well Being Services Department. She too, has con- tributed vastly to the life of Centennial in a myr- iad of roles and will be sorely missed. Finally, we say goodbye to our graduating stu- dents. While of course we are extremely proud of them and their accomplishments, their ab- sence from our school will be felt. They have grown over their time at CSS into young adults ready to face the next challenge in their lives. As they head off to the world of work, college, or university, we hope they remember the les- sons learned as Chargers, and that we are ex- ceptionally proud of them. ARTS AT CENTENNIAL
Graduation Art Exhibition 2017 The “Graduation Art Exhibition 2017” at Centennial Secondary School’s Cathe-rine Glover Art Gallery is a significant show that demonstrates the remarkable abilities of the graduating visual art students. The exhibition includes a variety of art media and themes. Paintings, drawings, photography and mixed media installations rep-resent the process of art creation. The exhibi-tion also features the artwork of Lauren Spel-mer, an alumni of Centennial Secondary School who is now studying Fine Arts at Queen’s Uni-versity in Kingston, Ontario. The exhibition opens June 29
th, 2017.
Library Show
April 2017 the annual high school student exhibition of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board took place at the Parrott Gallery on the third floor of the Belleville Public Library. This annual gallery exhibi-tion showcases and celebrates the artistic accomplishments of high school students. Centennial Secondary School submitted artworks by Marika Tamura, Shelby Tse, Camilla Leonelli, Olivia Lebouthillier, Leila Riddell, Siera Preston, Mackenzie Phillips, and Sejin Parks. Special congratulations is extended
to Marika Tamura and Shelby Tse who’s artworks were used for promotional posters and invitations.
Student Art Show
The BDIA held the 7TH
Annual Downtown Belleville Student Art Show of artworks by local Quinte area high school students. This year’s theme, “The Art of Changing the World” showcased a variety of artworks ranging from paintings, digital photography, drawings, and sculptures. Centennial Secondary School had several participants who were acknowledged for their artistic talents. Marika Tamura was awarded the Juror’s Choice Award, Mackenzie Phillips was awarded Best in Show, and Kirsten Davidson along with Ellen Clark were awarded Honourable Mentions. Congratulations to all stu-dents who participated in this exhibition.

Athletics at Centennial
Centennial has had another outstanding year in athletics. We had over 400 athletes participating on any of our 25
school teams this year, with 21 teachers and six volunteers giving their time to coach and ensure that CSS athletes are
participating in high school sports.
Fifteen out of our 17 team sports made Bay of Quinte playoffs this year. Three of our teams were crowned Bay of
Quinte Champions: that being our Senior Boys’ Football team, Junior Boys’ Rugby team and our Senior Boys’ Rugby
team. The Junior Boys’ Football team were silver medalists at the Bay of Quinte Championships.
Several of our athletes, participating in eight different individual sports offered at the school, were also Bay of Quinte
Champions including the sports of Cross Country, Golf, Gymnastics, Swimming, Wrestling, Badminton, Tennis and
Track and Field.
Nine of our teams made COSSA playoffs this year, with four of our teams being crowned COSSA champions. COSSA
champs this year were: the Junior Boys’ Rugby team, the Level 2 and Level 3 Gymnastics’ teams, and the Novice Aero-
bics’ team. COSSA silver medalists were our Senior Girls’ Rugby team, Junior Boys’ Football team, Senior Boys’ Foot-
ball team, and the Level 1 Gymnastics’ team. We had several athletes win COSSA gold in the individual sports that are
offered at our school.
At the OFSAA level, CSS had two cross country runners travel to Port Hope to participate in OFSAA: Donna Lee Truax
and Blake Douglas. Four wrestlers traveled to Brampton for OFSAA Wrestling: Chris Anthony, Natasha Luffman, Rory
Facette-Grondin and Alex Dodson. Congratulations to Alex Dodson for winning a bronze medal in his weight class at
OFSAA Wrestling. Quintin Lichty traveled to Windsor for OFSAA Swimming. Centennial had 18 gymnasts and the Nov-
ice Aerobic team qualify for OFSAA which was held in Belleville this year. The Level 1 team placed first in the team
championships and the Level 3 team placed second overall. Grace Vandervelde, Ria Hollax and Ally Culp all earned a
silver medal in their events, and the Novice Aerobics team earned a bronze medal. Outstanding results for the gymnas-
tics team at OFSAA. Samson Chan traveled to Pain Court for Badminton, and won a silver medal in Men’s Singles.
Megan Paddison was the lone track athlete that took part in OFSAA held in Belleville this year, and placed 12th in Junior
Girls’ Long Jump.

Senior Girls’ Soccer
The Senior Girls’ Soccer team began their season with an indoor tournament in the RMC Dome, playing against some
very strong Kingston Rep teams. The team finished 3rd
in their division after league play, and then lost a very close
game to St. Theresa in quarter final action. The team qualified for COSSA AAA, but lost their semi final game to St. Pe-
ters. Taylor Wightman was top scorer for the team, and at the Athletic awards banquet, Makenna Clayton and Mickaula
Douglas were awarded MVP honours. Julia Press and Liberti Hannah won the Coaches award. Congratulations on a
great season team.

OFSAA Gymnastics 2017 - Belleville Eighteen CSS Gymnasts and the Novice Aerobics team qualified for 2017 OFSAA Gymnastics which was
held in Belleville this year. The Level 1 team placed first overall in the team category, team members were:
Isabel Haw, Johanna Kirsten, Marisa Koning, Mattea Shunock, Fernanda Malinski and Emma Good. Jo-
hanna Kirsten led the way placing 4th in bars and 8th overall on floor. Highlights for the Level 2 competitors
were Ally Culp winning a silver medal on Level 2 bars, Ria Hollax winning a silver medal on Level 2 floor
and Molly Dion placing 4th both on vault and beam for Level 2.
The Level 3 team earned a silver medal overall, with team members being Jamie Dafoe, Hanna St. John,
Marissa Siegner and Grace Vandervelde. Grace earned a 4th on bars and a silver medal on Level 3 floor,
and Hanna St. John earned an 8th on bars. Emily Young placed 4
th on Level 5 vault, and our Novice Aero-
bics team won a bronze medal. Team members for aerobics were Johanna Kirsten, Mattea Shunock, Em-
ma Good, Grace Vandervelde, Ria Hollax and Marissa Siegner. Congratulations to all team members for a
fantastic season this year. Many thanks to all Centennial students who acted as minor officials to make the
meet run so smoothly and a huge success! A very special thank you to Mr. Foran for compiling the re-
sults, and Mrs. Foley for selling OFSAA apparel. Lastly, to our gymnastics parents who came and helped
set up and took down the club facility and the CSS gymnasium for the banquet.
