We have some exciting new things in the works for this year to provide you with an enhanced membership experience. In addition to our top-notch education programs, watch for the regional study, NexGen events and more happy hour socials. We are also seeking to strengthen the relationship we have with our Sponsors who are integral to our success as a chapter. I encourage you to reach out and establish a relationship with our sponsors and be a resource for them, as they can also be a resource for you. One of the first things I did as an aspiring Certified Financial Planner was to take the advice of my first professor at NYU in my CFP program. Professor Wetzel (you probably know him as Steve), advised us to join the FPA and get involved! I took his advice to heart and by far, it one of the most valuable things I did as a career-changer with a passion for financial planning. I joined…. and I got involved. I truly believe that the more you put in to your relationship with FPA the more value you get out of it. Every significant event in my career as a financial planner can be tied back to people I met through FPA.
As our "young" profession continues to grow and evolve, there will be growing pains. The work we do as financial planners is so important and the public needs us! To grow and thrive as a profession and a chapter we need your support and involvement. Check out the reports from our Committee Chairs and find an area that gets you energized and get involved! I am honored to serve as the 2014 Chapter President and feel very fortunate to have the support of a strong and committed group of board members and volunteers. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Cathy Seeber, John Kilroy, and Mike Clancy who have rotated off of the board and have given so selflessly to our chapter over the years. Looking forward to a great 2014!
2014 is shaping up to be another great year for FPA - Philadelphia Tri-State Area!

We now have over 30 people who are trained to be a part of our chapter’s media response team. The media response team’s role is to respond to request for quotes from members of the national media, to provide insight to FPA’s consumer oriented articles, and to be an author of content for the FPA’s plannersearch.org website and the FPA blog.
Our next step is to reach out to our local media and develop those same connections and use the members of our chapter as expert resources on financial planning topics. We feel this is a great way to promote our chapter and the financial planning profession as a whole.
If you would like to be involved in the media response team, a writer or a source for articles, please let me know and I walk you through the next steps.
Our goal this year for the marketing and media relations committee is to help promote our chapter and the financial planning profession through both the local and national media. The committee kicked off the year by setting up a media training event with Ben Lewis – Director of PR for FPA. There were over 20 people that attended and were training on topics such as how to proactively pitch a story to the media, how to handle an interview with a reporter, etc.
