MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATION

Card-Making & D.I.Y Lip Scrub

This year’s Mother’s Day Celebration was unique and

special as only fathers were invited, not mothers. The

children and their fathers created gifts for the queens

of their hearts. Fathers were sporting and contributed

much to creating the special gifts with their little ones.

Mothers were definitely surprised! It was a memorable

experience for the children as their fathers participated

in this activity with them at school.

LITTLE SUNSHINE Babies grow and develop their speech and

language when they are born. Starting with

babbling, these will turn into words and then

sentences.

Look at them! They enjoy bonding with their

caregivers as we enhance their language skills

through singing nursery rhymes and

communicating to them frequently.

“Learning environment can make or break a child.”

― J Greenman

During Discovery of the World, children

learnt to scoop water and observe items

that sink and float. They were excited as

we heard them saying “Oww” and “Wow”.

As our theme is on ‘Food’, toddlers

had a chance to explore and learn

about the different kinds of food.

They smelled different fruits, played

dress up and even manipulated with

spaghetti as part of sensorial activity.

TERRIFIC TODDLERS

Toddlers were exposed to activities which

enhance their development holistically.

We had cookery lesson in Week 5 of

the month. Children had fun assisting

their teacher in mixing and stirring!

THOUGHTFUL THREES! In Term 2, the Nursery 1s were exposed to the theme, ‘All Around Me’. The sub-themes were ‘Milk &

Water’, ‘Food’ and ‘Fruits & Vegetables’. Children were engaged in a lot of sensorial and cookery

activities such as making banana chocolate sandwiches, fruit salad and fruit kebab. They portrayed

curiosity, showed interest in learning and participated actively in the classroom activities.

“Box to bag!” To commemorate “Care for

Environment Day”, children brought

boxes to school. In creating awareness

on recycling, teachers led the children

to make a sling bag using the boxes

they brought.

“Sensorial & Exploration”

Children were engaged in the activities using the materials given at the Sensory & Exploration Interest

Area such as ‘Seed Shakers’, ‘Fruits Galore’ and ‘Fragrant Bottles’. They used their five

senses - taste, smell, sight, hear and touch when doing the activities.

MY FAMILY & NEIGHBOURHOOD In Term 2, children learnt topics about family, the people in the

community, places in the neighbourhood and healthy eating.

There was an overwhelming response for the Parent-Child Activity. As such, more

children were able to take part in the Show & Tell session every alternate Fridays.

Teachers have seen positive changes in the children’s attitude. There is also

improvement in their verbal language. Do continue to support us for future Parent-

Child Activities as your support contributes to the children’s learning development!

IGP 2017 TIGERS

Children applied graphing skills that they learnt in this term, into voting for the animal of study that they

would like for their Innovative Guidance Project (IGP). The majority, 8 out of 9 children, voted for

tigers. As an introduction to the project, children made tiger masks and learnt the ‘Tiger Boogie’, an

adaptation of Animal Boogie with specific lyrics created just for tigers by the children. Through this

song, they learnt the movements of the tigers as well as a brief description of a suitable habitat for tigers.

My Favourite Recipe

During the Public Speaking lesson in May, the children

presented on their favourite food and the recipes. There were a

variety of recipes such as Egg Mayo Sandwiches, French Toasts,

Chicken Rice and Singapore’s favourite breakfast, Nasi Lemak.

What was interesting about the lesson, the children exchanged

thoughts and opinions about the different dishes. They were able to

point out the similarities and differences between the dishes. For

example, they pointed out that in Chicken Rice, the rice is cooked

with ginger and garlic but in Nasi Lemak, coconut milk and pandan

leaves are used.

Save My World

The focus for the Innovative Guidance Project (IGP) is

on endangered animals. Children have been exposed to

endangered animals through storytelling and Music and

Movement. The K2 children has chosen elephant as their

animal focus. Throughout the remaining journey of IGP,

children will have more exposure and awareness about

elephants and their habitat.

For a start, children made an elephant headband craft to

be used during Music and Movement lesson. They

danced along to the song ‘Animal Boogie’ which

incorporates animal movements and animal sounds too. Page 9

practices among young children, covering various topics

such as resource conservation, dengue prevention and

climate change, and encourage them to take ownership

in protecting the environment.

As we embark on the SSDB project ‘KMBR Goes Wild’

where we focus on recycling and gardening, KMBR

chose the topic on resource conservation which included

the 3Rs and its practices. Children learnt various ways

that they can apply at their homes and even outdoors by
