As we celebrate the Chinese/Lunar New Year, let's not forget the selfless services of our nurses, cleaners and the concerted efforts of all teachers, staff and parents in our preventive campaign to keep healthy and practice good hygiene. Everyone has the responsibility for combating infectious diseases, from influenza to coronavirus. Recently, we all increased our awareness of the dangers of infectious viruses and are setting a good example on how to actively take precautionary measures to keep us, and those around us, healthy. Emails home and in this newsletter feature a checklist that shows how we are prepared to keep healthy: from hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene, good housekeeping and, if required, isolating ourselves for the benefit of others. It’s been truly warming to witness the care and support of the whole school community. Our students remain focused on learning - from inside the classroom or the work set via teachers on the google platform. Rest assured that we will contact you as soon as we have additional information. While our thoughts and prayers remain for those affected by the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak, we look forward to everyone returning safely to school. ISSUE 46. A festive mood was in the air as MGS celebrated the start of the Year of the Rat with entertaining performances by students and hands-on class activities on learning the traditions and customs of Chinese New Year festival.

Donning festive clothes, the Early Years, Primary and Secondary students were treated to a series of festive performances put up by their peers.

Everyone had a joyous time enjoying the lively lion dance troupe, accompanied by the entertaining antics of the God of Prosperity dancing down the school corridors to the beat of the drums and clanging of the cymbals and gongs.

The lion, a symbol of power, wisdom, and good fortune, is believed to chase away evil spirits and bring happiness, longevity, and good luck. Xīn Nián Kuài Lè to all!

财神到 ! The God of Prosperity arrives at MGS!

MGS CNY Door Decorating Contest 2020

To build the excitement and anticipation of Chinese New Year celebration in the campus, the MGS Mandarin Department organised a Chinese New Year Door Decorating Contest for the Year of the Rat. The annual contest has become somewhat of a tradition in the campus with students working together with their class/homeroom teacher to present the most creative CNY-themed classroom door. During the CNY assembly, the judges have awarded two classrooms from MGS Primary and MGS Secondary as the winners. They are Year 3M, Year 2M, Year 8M and Year 10T. Well done for all their hard work and effort!

We had an amazing experience, performing for our first huge public

MGS Netball Team back-to-back Friendly Games with Epsom College, SMK Tunku Ampuan Durah and SMK S2

12 secondary students represented MGS in the district level competit ion, MSSD Cross Country. Although our performance in the tournament was not as good as last year’s due to absence of key runners, the team’s persistence and commitment towards their training should be applauded.

    MGS in MSSD Cross Country

On 22 January, the MGS Netball team accompanied by Ms Rodhiah and Ms Pardeep travelled to Epsom College in Malaysia (ECiM) for their first friendly match of the year. Although our team was defeated by Epsom, it was a good experience and a great exposure to play on their court.

The girls played another friendly game right at ‘home’ against SMK Tunku Ampuan Durah and SMK Seremban 2 on 30 January. They are determined to learn from each game they have played by having post-mortem discussions on how they can improve. You have our support, team!
